2022 World Cup - Qatar

And what is the point of these players turning up? They really should have said I am not for selection on a mass scale if they wanted to make a true political statement on Qatar. Retire from international football like Kroos, although not sure he did it for the reason of Qatar. WTF should we be relying on football players to make a difference and not be hypocrites I don't understand.

We live in a world of hypocrisy. I wouldn't get my knickers in such a twist over it. This tournament will be over in a blink of an eye.

We will still be using Qatar gas (apparently 9% of imported gas we use in UK is from Qatar pumped capable of heating up to 1m homes). Germany themselves negotiating gas supplies from Qatar to fill the hole left by not using Russian gas.

Because they said they'd do something and then didn't,

If they hadn't have said they'd do it then no one would be batting an eye
News flash they are selfish. Just like the rest of the us are. No surprise that as soon as you threaten them playing at an event they want to win they are gonna cave.

Honestly feel sorry for the footballers and I won't call them hypocrites. Sure there a whole bunch of reasons to dislike them but ultimately this event is supposed to be the pinnacles of their careers that they have dreamed their whole lives to make. They are being coerced into a stand by putting that in jeopardy.

If they took a stand it should absolutely be applauded but yeah not to sure if I were there I'd take it over gesture that won't make a difference. Focus should be on FIFA and Qatar officials not the guys having to decide to put their childhood dreams in jeopardy for it.

And again!!!

and they say first games are supposed to be the easy ones.

How much do you reckon lack of preparation is affecting teams? The only fancied sides who have played well are the two with pace to burn.

Could be a case if surviving the group and finding cohesion later on.

to me it's like the duty of rescue. As soon as you start presenting yourself as a hero you shouldn't stop when presented with the first mole hill. I do think that it's a bit of an empty threat by FIFA as the image of showing a YC to a captain wearing a rainbow band would look awful. Stopping your advocacy efforts when faced with a YC shows you are all about the talk.

eh germany lost to Korea and Mexico last time out. This is who they are now. Struggle when they have to play outside the friendly confines of Europe.

This isn't a big shock IMO. Japan are and have for several years been a very good side. Germany on the other hand have been bang average for a few years now.

I still think of them as a tournament team though. They have been bang average in the past and still managed to get to the final - 2002 being a case in point.

The match stats are insanely in Germany's favour. There was a big question over their front 4 prior to the tournament which hasn't been answered.

Probably need a win v Spain now or they'll be dusht.

I take your point but they seem to lack their usual mentally strong big game players who can take games by the scruff of the neck. I stayed in Germany for a while and people I worked with said the current crop of players are too soft. The pressure is on them now and we'll see what they're made of in the next two.
