[2021 Six Nations] Ireland v England (20/03/2021)

By hitting him at or below the shoulders
EDIT: unnecessary from me. Sorry.

I find it hard to believe you are being serious.
The charger goes low and you cant always get to other parts of his body because the head is low and he comes first.
In some cases you have two, and only two options. Either you let him pass a bit and try to get him after the head goes past you, which is silly as it gives the ball carrier a huge momentum benefit or you have to touch part of his shoulders/neck/head.

And the problem is not the change of height. The problem is the ball carrier starts low and continues being low. It's like a battering ram. The change in position is not the problem. The position of the charger itself is.

And, and here is the kicker, if you go low enough to go under, odds are you trip him, his legs go around the horizontal, land on his face and you get carded.

I understand we need to protect players, but you need to do so in a way that gives tacklers a chance. This ain't it.

Low and on the ankles not smashing his shoulder into his head...
Show me one tackling coach that teaches players to go to the ankles against a player that is charging you. Just one.

It's easier to tackle a big person low than it is to go high. Have you never played?

Which is better?
A] being driven back 1-2 metres in the tackle (for examples, see most tackles made on Billy when he first burst onto the scene)
B] drawing in an extra man to help you make the tackle (for examples, see most tackles made on Billy)
C] forget the macho ****, go low, hit him in the midrif, and drive him upwards and backwards (for examples, see Faf De Clerk or Underhill)
D] line the tackle up early, and go in like an exocet; targetting the carrier's belly button (for examples, see Lawes)
E] get red carded (and subsequently banned) for dangerous play, and potentially giving a colleague brain damage (for examples, see Aki today, or Aki during the RWC, or many other examples over the last few years)

I thought we'd lose but I thought it'd be closer than that
Scoreline flatters us and that chat all week about having a wake-up call is just embarrassing considering how we looked worse than ever
