[2021 Six Nations] France vs Wales (20/03/2021)

So he's saying it wasn't a penalty for going off his feet, and Dupont loses control of it before it touches Williams' hand, so in his opinion he's done nothing wrong.

Right, my brains in gear now and I see what you're saying.....

It's the sort of passage that relies on intonation, seeing it simply written down doesn't give you the full context.

I think it's quite clear he knocks the ball out of Duponts hand. Now the question is whether he intentionally knocks it forward or is trying to knock it back its a 50/50 call. Its not what was given and I don't think Nigel has had a good look at that part, he says it more like an afterthought as he's mainly commenting on the initial wrong call.

Imagine if an England centric rugby show wheeled out a retired English ref to suggest England were robbed?

Sore losers, arrogant, etc.

No, but the English ref wouldn't have needed to have said it. That would have been the interpretation.

Oh, ok. So what you actually typed initially was a load of old bollix.

I'm sure there would've been Welsh people that would've interpreted it that way (based on a small clip) others might've seen it differently. I have no idea.

Who wants to feel angry and miserable? I think this was mentioned in here to be fair. I thought it was harsh but you win some you lose some.

"We have the best spectators in the world, the best supporters in the world" - I don't think that can really be said, anymore, seeing as it's twice now that Unions have had to make public statements about the level of abuse players are receiving from spectators/supporters

Yeah I don't really buy into that bollix and that is the stuff that is relevant to the point @ncurd was making earlier about playing to its audience. We've got our fair share of dick heads like anyone.

It perhaps means more to us than it does for most other countries but that doesn't mean we're better.

The Sonya stuff was also unacceptable (her actual quality as post match interviewer aside) and had to be spoken out about. 3 incidents that we know of in the tournament and this is just the year the straw broke the camels back.

Success of a team is a two-edged sword as it brings out the sort of arseholes who abuse the players for making the smallest of mistakes, who would otherwise be engaged in shouting abuse at a referee in football.

The modern age bud... social media may have its uses/benefits but are those worth it for the damage it is actually having on society?

Fair that's what it is but I think the issue is rugby has an exceptionalism problem when it comes to how we perceived our fans are or how we treat the ref and its not as true as it once was.

The last premiership match I went to at Bath had an Exeter fan constantly jab me in the ribs and him also taking the **** out a of kid. The majority of fans are fine but it was the first I've ever witnessed anything like that in rugby stands and that's a few years back now.

Yeah I agree. Following on from that I was listening to someone (think it was the Dragons winger Ashton Hewitt though might be getting mixed up) but anyway he was making a similar point to you kind of. He said it's frustrating, and quite common, when you see people automatically write off these racist scum bags and idiots abusing players by saying "they aren't rugby fans" when they ******* are. We might not like it or find it uncomfortable to acknowledge it but these people, as depressing as it is, are rugby fans. To sweep it under the carpet by saying these aren't proper rugby fans as rugby means X Y and Z is counter productive.

As you say, **** has definitely changed in recent years in some respects but online has taken things up to a whole other stratosphere of ****.
