2021 British & Irish Lions Squad

If Andy Farrell knows what's good for him he'll just sit this Lions tour out. If he flies out just before the tests it'll look like the Ireland tests were playing second fiddle or getting in the way of him going to SA. Not to mention it undermining the existing Lions coaches especially Tandy.

Had no issue with Farrell going, but to be fair how much influence was he going to have only joining the group that far into the tour?

Maybe Gatland wanted a sequel to the hurt arena speech or Farrell wants to be Lions HC in 4 years time and didn't want Townsend getting ahead of him in the race.

Andy Farrell is the Irish coach and still manages to pick an average English 10, which to be fair is a very Gatland move!

Tin foil hat.
Ryan and Gray wasn't picked because Gatland knows that they are more likely to impress during the pre test games, and it would be harder to just slot AWJ back should he be fit.
Beard is the definition of solid player won't really lose you a game but no one will notice him at all.

Ryan wasn't picked as last week there were concerns that he might have missed all of Ireland's summer games. So Ireland were worried he could have been out for up to 3 weeks, since he's not been in camp that's not a lot of time then before the actual tests start.
Why Grey wasn't picked though, I have no idea.

Yeah its kinda understandable why Ryan wasn't picked, I do think all both callups were made in a rush (as well as announcing captain) so if they wanted Ryan they could of waited. Nobody needed to be on the plane the next day and could of joined up a day or two late.

Gray makes no sense though and I have to agree with Tigs with the tinfoil hat on but slightly less so I do think the reason why Ryan and Gray weren't initially called up is it diminishes the argument to not play AWJ in match day squad. Said above and I'll say it again it feels like the potential mid-week side have been selected just to be happy to be in that side rather than pushing for test spots. Gray would potentially disrupt his test side plans so he calls up Beard knowing he isn't going to threaten getting in,

No, it just confirms that Alyn Wyn Jones is a demi god...... which we all knew anyway.

The Welsh medical team have disposed of Alun Wyn's limited meat prison and created Robo-AWJ, equipped with eye lasers for enhanced ruck inspection capability, extendable arms for long distance fisticuffs and soak tackle optimisation and adjustable 140 decibel speakers so he can complain to the ref from up to 2 miles away!
