2021 British & Irish Lions Squad

Here's a hypothetical if Kruis was coming back off an 8 month injury but still played for a successful premiership club would you be questioning the suggestion so much?

More likely most would be calling for it and hoping he got up back to his best match playing fitness as he'd pushing for a starting positionml.
Yes as that's even worse (having zero club rugby to go along with his zero international rugby)

I guess if he was back from injury and he had got a half dozen or so games underneath his belt for his club then he could be under consideration but then I would still ideally want players who have been playing the highest standard of rugby recently (international)

Paul O'Connell 2013 only had a handful of Munster games in a similar time period and was a nailed on starter come test time.

And this is Kruis Vs Adam ******* beard
Mentioning Kruis in the same sentence as POC just made me vomit a little bit. Beard is much closer to Kruis' level than Kruis was to POC in my humble opinion.

Either way, my point is that Kruis due to his lack of international rugby and his club status is a big risk. You and the other English lads seem to disagree which is cool, Obviously. I don't know any pundit or anyone saying the same as you guys but each to their own

People underestimate the Top league IMO.
It's not the most physical league but it's IMO one of the most well conditioned league.

5 members of the Springbok team play in the same league.

Honestly to consider the Pro league a top tier league and not the Top League is pretty laughable.

Yeah Kruis like POC has only won everything going and been a pivotal player in those successes. Beard a lot less so.

Again this is a straw man. I'm not even debating who's the best player or what have you. For me it's very very simple. Has Kruis been playing international rugby recently? No. Has Beard? Yes he helped us win a 6N. Has Kruis been playing top flight club rugby? No. Has Beard? Debatable but I'd argue as **** as the Welsh regions are the strength of the pro 14 is better than the Japanese league.

I said I wouldn't pick him, but I wouldn't pick Beard either and I'd certainly back him over Beard to be useful come the tests.

Cool. As I say, each to their own. We all have our opinions.

Out of interest, and this isn't a snidey question as I'm sure there's a few, but can anyone reel me off some names of credible or not pundits or rugby people who have seriously suggested Kruis other than some disgruntled English fans on the internet.

Has there been anyone calling for him now since Beard has been announced? Perhaps we'll see a few next week.

Reckon we should just cancel the tour now AWJ and Tipuric are out.

TBH, can't wait until the Union breaks up and we won't have anymore Lions tours. Lol.

They all have massive biases which I don't mind in general but fail to see why it makes their opinions generally relevant.
For me they are just like other forum posters or general public commentators.

and by Pundits I include ex players and coaches also.

Really? That surprises me but it shouldn't in this Brexit age. People who are considered experts aren't anymore and their opinions are given the same weight as an uninformed nobody on the internet who's never played the game. Wow.

Yeah, I hope you don't mind, and while I will never take any opinion from anyone as factual I think I'll put a little more weight into people who have actually played top level rugby before. Lol.

Kruis isn't being talked about because all pundits will sensibly talk about then Gray snub. He was only really mentioned here as part of a list of players who should called up before Beard.

Well I'm sure the outrage in the media will reach similar levels and we'll start seeing them reeling off all the candidates that are way better, including Kruis.
