2018 NatWest Six Nations: Round 1 - France v Ireland

Are France abusing the HIA laws again? World Rugby needs to take a serious look at this because last year was a joke and we don't want it happening again.
No the independent match official ordered him off. It was a knee injury so French doctor was confused

Brunel at least has them organised and his young charges are showing no lack of effort. Doubt theyll come close to scoring a try though.

Highlights so far are a second consecutive game where a scrum is lost due to a dodgy feed. And Eddie Butler mistaking Aki for a presumably swarthy Rob Kearney.

Possibly, but if so, they're doing it in the same way that every nation and every club do.

The call came from off the pitch, not the on-pitch Dr; which means it came from the TV Dr. So there must at the very least, be enough on the video to justify the request. He was lying very still on the ground for a bit, which would probably be enough to justify the check, albeit cynically; it looked to me like he was clutching his knee though meaning muscle tone and control was present, and thus consciousness.
Of course, there may also have been something from the previous 5 minutes or so that we all missed.
The rules are there to be abused, and it would naive I'm the extreme to think that anyone doesn't abuse it - and I'd far, far rather they were abused for unnecessary assessments, than lying about a player being winded when they are obviously unconscious (Dom Ryan for Leicester this season)

I was thinking where France were going to score their points, because they don't look like getting a try and Ireland are great at not giving penalties away in their own half...then they went and gave away a penalty in their own half.

That was such a stupid penalty to give away, especially considering France look toothless in attack.

Since when did we get independent Drs? And how the hell did I miss that?
Has been in for a while now in international games.

On game. Great for Ireland to see James Ryan doing well. Earls has looked very sharp on wing. But credit to French. They are playing really well

By "a while" you certainly mean less than 2 years, as they weren't there form the 2016 6N, have you any links? The closest I can find is that WR are open to the idea. It's something I've been banging the drum for for a number of years, so I'm surprised I've missed it.

Don't worry about hunting during the match though, more important things to do.

Enter the soon to be recognised greatest back rower on the planet Mr Leavy. We seem to have the same mental block against the French as they do against the English.

The French aren't lacking effort - although that could swiftly dry up if they fall further behind. However, for the moment they're hangin' in there. Allez les Bleus!

Yeah not 2 years but certainly over a year. Probably caused over that famous game in Paris

Machenaud looks like he's about to burst into tears! Can't be that bad, surely!

Ireland are getting a lot of success by picking and going and keeping it tight early in this half. France need to be a bit more aggressive in their defence as if Ireland get the first score this game is probably a bridge too far for them.

France don't seem to want to put in any medium range kicks/grubbers to get this Irish defence guessing. It's all route one and basic.
