[2017 Six Nations] - England

I hope it means that Sinkler, Mako and Watson have been sent off for some game time. Doesn't explain why they're still listed in the squad

They will be sent back to their clubs for gametime, presumably after training with the squad for a few days.

They did the same last year with the replacement front rowers in particular - to keep their fitness up.

Do you think Watson as 15 is likely? Italy would have seemed the obvious choice, if only to give him two home games before a probable ***le decider in Dublin.

I doubt he was fit. If he plays this weekend it could see him on the bench in a fortnight. I'll sleep better if we start bedding in some of the questionable positions a bit before the Lions/summer. Unfortunately, shifting Brown after 60ish mins looks like the only real change we're likely to see this tournament for various reasons

I think we'll see him move from the wing or the bench before we see him starting, unless it's during a summer tour or the like...

Has he played for Bath since his injury yet? Scotland may be a good team to start against given the kicking options and likely forward dominance.

What do I think what means?

Sorry I meant what do you think it means that Mako, Sinkler and Watson were sent back to their clubs . The others I can understand anyway

I thought that's what you were insinuating when you said alright den

Nah, you just have to type something when you quote, so I typed that...

They haven't been sent back yet, either... they'll go at the end of the week.

I'd imagine against Scotland we would want to only employ kicking with a good chase. Watson before injury did this well with Ford and, even if we didn't regain possession, it was very rarely the catcher could make ground and we'd often have the defense set up right near where the ball landed. We don't want to give Hogg any space to run but bombarding him with aerials that are properly chased wouldn't be so bad, he's not the strongest in the air. Plus more than most he seems to be a morale player, if he gets frustrated he tries to do everything himself.

I think we can also accept that there is little chance of beating the Scots in the breakdown so I think we will have to put an extra man in. Wales turned us over too many times because someone would run in and there would be maybe 1 English player trying to clear out 3 Welshmen with the rest of the English forwards just standing and watching rather than reacting. There is no point having everyone fanned out across the field for a wide game if the ball is constantly slowed down forcing you to keep it tight.

I'd hope those going back are for game time. Sinckler in particular has done nothing wrong and a hell of a lot right in the little time he has played. I can't see him being a starter this 6N but you can bet he is going to have the shirt off Cole sooner rather than later.

I really hope Watson will be playing 15 this weekend.
Against Wasps?
I'm a little surprised you'd care; but I would doubt it TBH. Coming back from the hamstring injury it would be better, if given a straight choice, to play wing first up. Less running around out there, and gives him a chance to knock out the rustiness without being as exposed as you can be at the back.
Beyond that Bath are fine with Rocco and Homer at 14 & 15; but are relying on an academy kid who's having a bit of a torrid time of it at 11; so situationally much more likele to take that shirt.

Oh God I really feel for the poor guy, and on top of everything the commentator couldn't even get his name right!

Agree that Watson will play wing against Wasps if he does play ... not that he'll get much decent ball

5live reporting Billy Vunipola set for Saracens return this weekend.

I dare say I've missed this elsewhere but England's approach at the breakdown against Wales looked like a team tactic to me - It seemed that we knew we couldn't compete so we let them have the ball and fanned out the defence.

Will be interesting to see if we take the same approach with Scotland (and Ireland for that matter).

I'm talking about when we had the ball, there is no benefit at all to losing possession in attack because the forwards just stand by and watch as the ball repeatedly gets turned over. Fanning out wide requires that you can get the ball out quickly and crucially not get turned over. If you can't keep possession when you need it then everything else becomes pointless. The ease with which we concede possession through turnovers is worrying, we need to be putting an extra player in at least. Yeah we then have 1 less player ready to attack but that's better than struggling at every breakdown and either losing the ball or being forced to keep it tight for another phase defeating the whole point of fanning out in the first place.

Yeah, sorry - missed the perspective.
