[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 4: Wales v Ireland (11/02/2017)

Not convinced! we got away with that one Ireland went down to 10 and we took advantage , when sexton came back on in the 2nd half we reverted back into our old ways! inviting pressure, players looked tired and we were lucky with that penalty as Ireland were pretty much over and would of taken the lead .Great first half though and I was proved right that North deserved to keep his place in the team, I thought he was outstanding today only second to webb who was also outstanding. Don't think any of the starting 15 had a bad game for Wales today , biggar was great in defense today which was needed against this irish side today, would of liked to have seen sam come on 10 mins earlier though and why the hell did howlers take webb off? again another example of howley not able to read a game , gareth davies was still asleep when he came on! Jamie Roberts take a bow , good cameo by him but I'm still not convinced by this welsh management tactics

Where are you finding that here? Is it just the general hate?

He had a great game.

Just scrolling through social media. The number of Irish fans putting the entire blame on Barnes is laughable. The Welsh have done the same when they have lost. Apparently Barnes is anti-everyone.

Thought Wales reverted to the tried and tested. Was almost a case of 'Look, we know that we can beat you if we play that way, but we're trying to play this new way now'. Defending a lead, can you think of many benches that can bring on a trio better than Roberts, Gogo Gadget and Faletau? (Ok, maybe not Faletau, but his speed off the back took the Irish by surprise with the chargedown).

Best game of the 6N this year so far! Thanks to both teams - shame someone had to lose.
Mike

I know I'm going to regret this, but... what did she do this time?

To Rory Best, apparently ignorant of the possibility that Scotland could win tomorrow: "So Rory, are you sad that the championship's gone?"

In fairness, it is barely even alive mathematically as Ireland didn't pick up a losing bonus (despite wisely trying hard for it at the end). You wouldn't expect her to ask Howley about "keeping the dream alive".

He is English. He is a Referee. Somebody has to shoulder the blame;)

Well Ddanno she basically is correct as if Scots win and tomorrow and they will surely beat Italy they are champions,England win tomorrow and they are champions bizarre results only for Irish chances so for once she is 100% correct.

Agreed. Thoroughly entertaining and a real back-and-forth game. Even though Wales were playing for pride alone I was on the edge of my seat throughout.

On the whole a huge improvement from Wales, playing in much the same way we played against England for the majority of that game. Some great individual performances as well. Rhys Webb put in a huge statement for the starting 9 spot for the Lions, Biggar controlled things very well (without mentioning those stray passes!), Warburton was everywhere again and Jake Ball put in a good ball-carrying shift which was nice to see. North really did respond to his critics and got involved all over the field, and had the best defensive game I think I've ever seen from him. He really closed the attacking space down on the wing and man-marked very efficiently. The thing that won Wales the game this time though I think was the vast improvements in the line-out and scrum, both of which were solid and Wales managed to pinch a few throws as well. Still lots of things to improve on, mainly finishing off simple attacking moves, but I am so much happier this week.

Unlucky Ireland, it seems like they struggle with similar problems to Wales at the moment. Showed some great set-piece moves but Wales' defence was rock solid tonight. CJ Stander is the first name on the Lions starting team sheet for me though, he is an outstanding player. Henshaw was prominent too and made good ground. Like Wales, consistency is the main issue with Ireland at the moment.

If Scotland win its effectively still gone though as they'll beat Italy

On game how was Stander subbed? Him and Warburton were immense.
North returned, Webb was brilliant but makes costly errors.

For Ireland Schmidt is heading to crossroads, mix team up and go again or stick with stale selections and curve will be downward and negative.
Will never happen but I'd be brave next week and make 4/5 changes

Social media is full of soccerites and chips on shoulders, anyone who knows anythibg could see Wales executed their plan and we didn't.

Bet on North to score at any time, pre game
Bet on Wales to win, when they were 5-6 down.

An extra £51 in my bank to celebrate England winning the Six Nations a week early, tomorrow evening :D

Is she the one who, pre-match, kept saying 'the Welsh have watered the pitch! The Welsh have watered the pitch!', trying to stir controversy?

Wow so it's a 12pk of Druids cider so instead of Buckfast

Well at least Ireland have kept up their recent trend of getting progressively worse under Schmidt.

Yeah, it was weird how she was so intent on clinging to that. I mean, the ball and ground did look slippery in the opening minutes of the game, but it's not as if these players aren't used to those kind of conditions week-in, week-out. She was acting like a bit of water would make it impossible for either team to cope.
