[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 3: England vs Italy (26/02/2017)

It's not me saying it, I am quoting 'Five Key Areas of Refereeing' which has been ensconced into the Laws of Rugby. Look it up.
Funny thing is I'm a referee and I'm assuming your not. The whole no offsides line until a ruck is formed is a pretty huge point of emphasis.

I think your getting bogged down. See technically its not a breakdown and the tackle is still open play.
This isn't a smart comment but genuine. If you read the rules carefully on it and the breakdown you'll see how it's officiated. If you watch 7s you'll know this law 100%. As I said the big thing is England didn't have a clue of rules on it which is worst. And I think thats why Jones was sour because he got caught on hop. He came out before hand saying they'd "slaughter them" and ended up with overall a poor points difference result.

This I take objection too. Jones throws up so much smoke before every match that you can either treat him as a savant or a moron- or someone playing the media to their advantage and to hell with controversy.

Immediately before the match he was asked if he thought England would get the bonus point- his words were to the effect of "if we play well, I hope so, but we have to play well first". If you take that snippet he comes across as modest- England played poorly and the bonus point was still taken, and so he comes off well. Jones' media circus is so subjective it's very hard to form an opinion on him.

As to him being annoyed- agreed that he most definitely was. Whether that was with his players at being so inept or O'Shea for being so tricksy, who knows. Probably a combination.

And he did when Haskell did it did he not? Players have so many meetings and all around tactics and laws. There was no fault on ref. He's there to enforce laws not teach them. I'd ask again where was the ref wrong.

You said it what not his duty though. You're contradicting yourself bud!

Eddie Jones made Jonny May shave to make him look faster

lol wat

Honestly i think jones did a great job on Saturday.

He was obviously upset that he hadn't prepared his team well for the game (to be fair not many coaches would have expected this defense.) and what was worst was his team being utterly clueless about how to attack this defense.

He did a great job making adjustments at half.

Afterwards he took the blame off his players by attacking O'Shea. I really don't think he believes O'Shea to be a detriment to the game of rugby (not basketball I'm a moron) but rather wanted his players to feels as if they've weren't to blame.

Basketball? CO'S is really in for it. Jones was classless again, nothing new, if England start losing he'll look like a right fool.

Its not his duty to tell them. But he did when asked. No contradiction or am I missing something? He told them after how long of England been clueless? And that was when he was asked. He explained his ruling but that's not contradiction of basically tjem wanting to tell the rule as play was developing.

I agree you either take him 1 way or not. But agter game he was so classless and poor that it made him be massively disliked. Especially when he used a similar tactic at times for Japan. Obviously not on a same level

And despite the odd jabs England always get when they struggle, who is really paying any serious attention to their performance? It's all about Jones. I don't doubt he is a gobby Aussie but as a tactic to distract attention when England don't perform, it works well.

I think this sums it up, he is very calculated with the media and now the focus is all on Italy's tactics and how upset England are, not on their performance. I personally think Italy's tactics changed nothing in the game in terms of points wise. England were playing awful anyway, and the tactic just exacerbated the issue, but didn't cause it. Also Italy's opportunities all came from them playing regular rugby and the try from England not paying attention. Finally once England regrouped at half time, they were able to quickly expose the flaw in the tactic. For me Italy played well and took advantage of the situation, but it wasn't game changing. If they had a reliable kicker though, then England might have been under some more pressure.

As an English fan, my bigger concern is that we have gone backwards after 3 games. Hughes was terrible, as was Farrell. Only players I thought were above average were Daly, Launchbury and Itoje. Brown was better though and the subs as usual helped improve the situation. George and Nowell should definitely start against Scotland.

Yes Jones doing a fantastic job of upsetting the other nations, delighted to have him :)

Cant really read much from that game and the fact that O'shea had a meeting on friday with poite to understand the rule himself (and had to change his tactics) shows you haskells question wasnt so stupid!

The only people who's opinion of jones matters are the rfu and the players. The rfu just wants him to win so they have to be happy. He seems to always go to bat for his players and they keep winning, so players have to be happy. If he starts to lose he will be fired whether he's a jackass or an angel.

Its a brilliant piece of deflection IMO - everyone has forgotten that england are going for a record equalling winning streak agaisnt the scots, no one is talking about that :)

Scots have been brilliant so far this six nations, will be a great game

The fact that the Wasps, with players such as Launchbury, used that very tactic only 6 months ago does make it seem a bit stupid though

An Hughes, who I think wasps used as the guy that cut off the passing lane. Guys on England's knew the law, idk why there was such ha disconnect.

I can't argue with that. It's spor on

--------I dont think Wasps used this as a tatic as such, they knew the tackcle vs ruck law and knew they were not offiside. To use continuously is something completly different. I go to a game every week or watch one on TV and i had never heard of the 1m rule, had you?

They also changed the fact that you couldnt engage the scrum half from the wrong side of the ruck only that week so i would be amazed if anyone here knew that seeing as connor O'shea and venter (who designed this) only found out on last friday and have openly said that had to change the way they played on saturday
