[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 1: Italy vs. Wales (05/02/2017)

Happy with a lot of what Wales are doing. Kicked less and look a bit surer in the attacking patterns, maybe King has made a difference with that. Wales' lack of being clinical on the try lines is why they are behind.

I think grinding Italy down is important and the points will come second half. Wales need to get three on the board to settle the nerves.

Yep doesn't really feel like a potential upset despite the try. Apart from wasting an attacking position with a dropped ball (understandable in the conditions) I'd say Wales have played their gameplan pretty well

Halfpenny needs to think about switching contact brands. This is the third or fourth time this season I've seen him have to put them back in.

If Biggar had to go it might not be the worst thing. Wales crying out for a ball playing 10. Biggar always runs towards touch giving his backs less space and doesn't pick good passes anyway.

Anyone know what happened to Garcia by the way? Impressed by him last year

The Italian scrum half is so ****. All of that possession and they used maybe 1/4 of the pitch, completely ignoring the entire right half. I think their scrum half can't pass to his right and that's why every Italian attack ends up stuck on the left side of the pitch making it easy for Wales to defend.

Funny really, but in a way the old school Jamie Roberts game would really suite these slow conditions, rather than the new attack we are testing out. Both teams having to fight for every yard. Italy looking sharp with the ball and certainly getting over the gain line. Kudos for the try.

That's why you need Sam Warburton in the team somewhere. His defence and jackal is still very good. He will make 3/4 turn overs or cause havoc with the attacking ball.

And he's also an annoying, moaning complaining prick who needs to keep his mouth shut when stuff doesn't go his way. I dunno in a way I don't want Wales to hit rock bottom here today because then Davies becomes more and more likely to play himself into favour and from there Wales will obviously be more dangerous

Wales need to make all this territory count.

Shaky start from Sam Davies. Interception, turn over and a kick to nothing... hoping he settles in.

I guess it takes to be a nasa engineer, a neurosurgeon or a wr ref to understand how scrum penalties are awarded.

Yeah that was as borderline a penalty as you can get. I felt that Italy had come out looking to tighten up and slow the game down. Perhaps they'll have to start moving it again now.

Also the only reasons the legs have gone higher is because of the Welsh player being in the way. Otherwise it would have been a fantastic tackle.

I don't like ex-welsh rugby player on the commentary. Everything Wales do seems to be great from his point of view. Perfect substitutions apparently.

Don't mind, it's not like I can understand anything he says anyway.

I think that was a case of probably, but not definitely, so tmo couldn't give it.
