2016 Olympic Games, Rio

Talking about boxing: now I know nothing much about this sport, and would like to object to its existence; though I don't on the principal of consenting adults, and all that.

I know that boxing head guards have been proven worse than ineffectual in combating concussion - the entire point behind them, IIRC they double the risks, rather than halving them, but do protect against cuts and bruises (much like scrum caps then, but with direct research).
Equally, I know that they've been banned for these Olympics, but....
Does anyone know why they're only banned for male boxers, whilst the females have to put up with the increased risk? I'm struggling to find any not-horribly-sexist reason for this; can anyone help?

No studies done on women for them to base it on, I imagine they are waiting for one before doing anything.

If that's confirmed, then its definitely horribly sexist.
What differences do they think exist between male and female brains (in terms of protection from concussion)? Or is it the fists that are different?

This points race is so much better than the men's.
Trott not afraid to attack despite being massively in front, whereas Cav almost looked disinterested in trying to win the Gold.

I don't know I'm not an expert but the rule has been in place for 3 years now, senior men it is banned everyone else can wear them. (So not just women but also juniors).

I guess it is a mix between not enough data and the fact that women don't hit as hard as men maybe.

All of Trott's attacks were defensive. Cav needed to attack but just didn't join it.

Trott in complete control throughout.

Now won 50% of events on the track and still 2 more to go. Silver in 2 others only we DNS'd.

TBF Cav prob just wanted to make sure he gets a medal considering this is prob his last Olympics.

It's alright saying go all out attack for gold but a mistake could cost you a medal.

Yup you only have to look at how well Trott controlled the race and realise the Italian just did the same yesterday evening.

Bronze on the track in women sprint now to see if the other is silver or gold...I think Volgel will take gold sadly.

According to Chris Hoy our entire track cycling team has won a medal 0_0.

Silver and Bronze in women's sprint....we'll take that ;)

Why are all the American medal tables done on total and not gold like everywhere else?
The Canadian do it as well. I think it's just goes by what their papers have always published. The IOC only in recent years started publishing a medal table there is no offcial table according to them as competition isn't between nations.

Yeh but it makes no sense it basically values a gold medal as the same as a Gold medal.

On the Rio website it does have the top 5 countries in the medals

Fuuuuuu not good for Kenny

Shadows of Pendleton in 2012

Durney rider needs to be prompt on these races I mean been on the track longer than it should IMO.

Pendleton was far more clear cut than this

Yeah but there was millimeters in it I've seen far worse in the sprinting this year.

......and breathe. Think common sense prevails there.

Massive let off that, looked like it was Kenny.

Bit crappy for the riders, I know they were slowly cycling about but after all their warmups thay waiting around is going to have an effect
