2016/17 Pre-season thread

The Quins team to play Glasgow has been named:

1. Marler
2. Buchanan
3. Sinckler
4. Twomey
5. Horwill
6. Robshaw
7. Wallace
8. Clifford

9. Care
10. Evans
11. Visser
12. Roberts
13. Marchant
14. R. Chisholm
15. Morris

No Brown and Yarde, but otherwise that's about the strongest side we can put out.

Hopefully they'll perform better than the second string did last weekend.

There is no reason at all why the A league cannot be streamed like this.

That's a very good scrum - good news for England if that continues.... Sinckler and Marler.

The Quins anniversary kit is also extremely nice.

Mikalcius is very good.

Best Glos kit in a while:

Apparently Tom Stephenson picked up a really bad injury today (broken leg from what I can tell - a couple of people on the saints board saying they could hear it snap from the stands!).

Really bad luck for the guy.

Glocs line up for this evening's game against Glasgow:

Gloucester Rugby

Tom Marshall, Charlie Sharples, Matt Scott, Billy Twelvetrees, Henry Purdy, Billy Burns, Greig Laidlaw; Yann Thomas, Richard Hibbard, John Afoa; Joe Latta, Mariano Galarza; Ross Moriarty, Matt Kvesic, Ben Morgan

Replacements
Darren Dawidiuk, Paddy McAllister, Paul Doran-Jones; Tom Denton; Lewis Ludlow, Callum Braley, James Hook; Mark Atkinson, Alex Craig, Dan Thomas, Andy Symons, Gareth Evans, Elliott Creed, Lloyd Evans, David Halaifonua, Charlie Beckett

Looks pretty strong - will be good to see Burns get a start at 10.

Chiefs have put out what looks to be their 1st choice team (- the injured Nowell) or pretty close to it.

1. Ben Moon
2. Luke Cowan-Dickie
3. Harry Williams
4. Mitch Lees
5. Damien Welch
6. Don Armand
7. Julian Salvi
8. Thomas Waldrom
9. Will Chudley
10. Henry Slade
11. Ian Whitten
12. Sam Hill
13. Ollie Devoto
14. Olly Woodburn
15. Phil Dollman

16. Jack Yeandle
17. Alec Hepburn
18. Greg Holmes
19. Geoff Parling
20. Dave Dennis
21. Dave Lewis
22. Gareth Steenson
23. James Short

Hopefully Ewers is being rested rather than left out. I also don't like Whitten starting as a wing over Short, Whitten's a very good 12 but not a winger. I also rate Short quite a bit more than Woodburn and would like to see him start over him. I also hope to see Dennis start whether it be in the second or back row. Moon over Hepburn is questionable but I think Baxter questions if Hepburn's big enough to be a starting prop. And tighthead confuses me, the Chiefs have 3 international tightheads yet Baxter consistently opts for an unfit Williams who's only been playing pro rugby for a season. Slade at 10 is promising and I like the look of the Hill-Devoto centre pairing.

If Ewers has been left out then I'd happily swap out Waldrom or Salvi for him. He's a monster of a man and needs consistent game time if he's gonna have a chance at getting into the England squad. A good season from him could easily see him take Williams' squad place.

Owen Farrell out for the first part of the season with a back injury.

Doesn't sound bad, he'll definitely miss the first game but beyond that is to be seen.

I haven't been paying much attention to Sarries signings, with him out and Hodgson gone, who will be at 10?

Will Evans starts again @ 7 for Tigers and McGrath on the bench.

Lozowski may be in a similar position to Robson last season; with Simpson out.

Simpson isn't quite as established as Owen, but still - he's got a great chance to get his foot well in the door.

Realistically there's no chance though is there. Lozowski's a fine player, but he could have his best game ever and still not get in over Farrell. Getting in over Barritt with Faz shifting to 12 is more likely, but still next to impossible unless there are quite a few injuries.
