[2015 TRC] Australia v South Africa in Brisbane (18/07/2015)

Quick question: If the TMO get's asked for a "yes or a no try" and from the footage he can't really tell, does he have to make a judgement call or can he pass that judgement call back to the ref?

Got no idea how the heck we won that - got destroyed at the breakdown and the scrums for most of the game, but the bench massively improved our set piece and attack. Toomua has to start ahead of f##king Cooper.

Wow what a game, really enjoyed watching Pocock when he came on, he's awesome. It showed Hooper and Pocock will be a real force to reckon with at the RWC.

Drop Cooper though, end of story.

Phipps is your man at 9 as well, he came on and was fantastic.

Think they've backed down heavily on their stance to challenges in the air - if you're making a legit challenge for the ball there isn't a problem.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that - not the first time he's done that either.

In fairness, it's made for a better end, but I'm not sure that's why the ref is there. I'd be pretty mad if I was a Saffa fan right now, albeit there's nothing to complain about given the whole gamut of the game. Wasn't happy with some of his decisions over challenges in the air, looked so out of step with what I've been seeing. Really not sure he's the ref he was.

Anyway, congrats to the Wallabies, very hard lines on the Saffas, fantastic game for the neutral (once it got going).

Yeah it's like he knew SA were trying to just waste time and win it so was looking for something to ping them on. That exact ruck in the 23rd minute wouldn't have caused a penalty. I hate inconsistency so I think that was a poor call

Agree on both counts - service from Phipps was just way faster and he just generally attacked the rucks with more precision and energy.

Yeah... Cooper. What a f##king joke.

Iv got no idea how they can even think of selecting Genia after the Reds season this year he contributed nothing to that campaign and how anybody thought it would be any different at this level is beyond me. And then theres Cooper well its all better left unsaid....

I think Owens reffed that well. Players seemed to be going for the ball so I was happy to see that go. Australia should be happy with that win. The bench were excellent but I think South Africa decided to stop playing rugby.

Things I learnt:
Poey has to start, whether combined with hooper and Skelton replaced with horwill and fardy on the bench, or hooper to be an impact player. I would start both though.
Gits has to start, maybe not quade. I'd go gits at 10 and Toomua 12
Skelton isn't fit enough for international footy
Genia to start, only just over Phipps, as both distributed hot and cold, but Phipps delivered slower over all.

I'd select no one from the Reds. Cooper and Genia are woeful.

Falou is unbelievable under the high ball, it's freakish. Mogg will never get a look in, he's a poor mans Dagg anyway.

This match shows Australia do have the players they just need to select them in the starting lineup and right positions. Im not convinced on Hooper but theres probably nobody else.

For me its got to be Phipps, Giteau, Toomua. Anything else is just simply not going to work. Foley as backup.

So another Wallabies victory over SA at the last second by 2nd year in a row

Yeah, Lealiifano is pretty good as well.

Hooper was awesome in defence, he is a small 8 or 6 for me. We won't win a big game without a fetcher (Poey), so play them together or play Poey over hooper.

Genia over Phipps? After that?

Phipps and Pocock literally dragged the Wallabies back into the game...the pace of the game with Phipps was insane.

I thought Hooper played well, but I think Australia struggled on the deck in the first 50, Pocock made an instant impact... As did Horwill.

Thought Moore made a poor call with the kick at goal, but worked out well in the end. Well done Australia.
