I thought Kvesic looked in monstrous nick against Saints. Really got stuck in to everything.

Clifford has been fab this season and I'll take everyone's word on Itoje.

One of them should make the World Cup at least. But for now I doubt it. Wood will move to the bench as a direct swap for Croft and we won't bring another in as Easter is already in the squad.

That would be one of the most regressive steps of Lancasters time in charge.

Got to agree, the form Ewers and Itoje are in means Lancaster must bring at least 1 into the match day squad against Scotland. If Croft was there to cover 2nd and back row then I see Itoje as a straight swap.

Yeah but Ewers is surely a country mile ahead of Itoje at the moment. Itoje is post-world cup; Ewers could yet prove a very important part of our world cup campaign.

don't really have an opinion either way, i like Haskell and think he's been good, but he was poor against Ireland (not alone in that though) and i can see them using it as a reason to re-instate Wood ala Samoa last year.

He wont' go outside the EPS/Current squad so no way Itoje and Ewers are coming in.

Even with Croft injured?

Itoje has potential but isn't ready for the top level yet.

Ewers is very impressive, I would really like to see him get a chance.

Itoje was very good against Wasps yesterday- he offers a proper lineout option and was a real neusance at the rucks (big hits too- dislodged the ball a couple of times). I'm not sure where Sarries will use him once Kruis, Vunipola and Brown are back- he may be a bit short for a lock, but he needs to be carefull not to get too big and immobile for a no.6, having said that, some improved ball carrying work in the tight and he could be exactly what England need in the no.6 role to partner Robshaw/Vunipola (which is a bit of a poisoned chalice imo), since out of all the current options he combines lineout option, with big ball carrier and and being a bulldozer at rucks.

As I've said before, bringing in the likes of Ewers/Kvesic will only slightly improve a fundamentally flawed back row, because it will still be deficient in at least one aspect of play.
Ewers + Robshaw + Vunipola = wrecking machine, but also sloooow, no specialist jackal threat and a shaky lineout.
Kvesic + Robshaw + Vunipola = faster and jackal threat, but again no lineout option of note.
Funnily enough an in form Wood (the bulkier version) was probably the most balanced yet (still not optimal) with good lineout, decent ruck work, but only average carrying.
Haskell is decent, but lineout is still poor and he is a bit bulky/slow without exceptional ball carrying to compensate for this.
As above, Itoje could turn out to be a good hybrid (maybe not yet though).

Robshaw + Vunipola = problem. (cue the hissy fits)

You dont have to be too mobile to be a 6. I mean he's already a very mobile back five forward, putting on some bulk will do him well to take hits and make bigger ones.
Imo presence is the most important attribute of being a top 6.

Look at Kaino, Collins, Elsom, Juan Smith, Ferris, Alberts etc...

If Robshaw and Vunipola together are not offering enough 'presence' (such that we need another at 6) then it demonstrates my point that they are cumulatively offering far too little as a combination (since they aren't exactly offering speed, jackal or lineout).
Kaino can play the traditional 6 role of 'presence' because Mccaw and Read offer so much as a unit already (lineout, speed, link, jackal etc). Ferris with O'brien and Heaslip is the same. How about Lydiate with Warburton and Faletau...

our pack is the most settled part of the whole equation, and the one place the English coaches don't really tinker... Wood got his knuckles rapped for being a very naughty boy in the AI's and then came out and had a decent game against Australia.

He was pretty decent on Saturday, and i think we'll see him back in because he was always first choice for Lancaster - injury aside, I doubt we'll see much change to the back row or front row line ups ahead of the world cup - 2nd row possibly, with Lawes and co coming back.

I just hope Wood keeps his temper, he has become a bit of a liability giving away penalties. I've felt Wood and Robshaw are too much the same.

The guy's 6 foot 5!

6'5" is definitely short for an international lock. Off the top of my head, I can think of more 6'5" international blindsides than I can locks.
