Wow that was a bit of a precious reaction to a light hearted dig...

He was pretty rubbish at the Rebels mate, i wouldn't hold that up as a bastion of his greatness... and when he played for England he had one good game against Ireland and then got himself into charge down city, he was literally atrocious in the 2008 AI's and rightfully dropped.

He's been ok at Sale, but he's never been near the form he was in at Wasps, pre-2008 injury.

Ha, I shouldn't say this but I actually agree He only ever seems to have big games when Gloucester are on top.

I'm part of the (admittedly small) group that thinks Sharples should rejuvenate his career by converting to fullback. He's a solid winger who hardly ever has a bad game, but he does go missing from games if the ball doesn't reach his wing. Perhaps that's as much about coaching as it is about him though. I think he suits playing fullback though. He's got a strong kicking game, is good under the high ball and has a lot of pace. He won't go missing at fullback either. It also means he can link up more with May...

As much as I dislike Banahan, bad passing isn't a dealbreaker for a winger for me. Wingers don't make many passes. The combined total of passes the England wingers (May, Watson, Roko, Yarde) made in four games this Autumn was only 16! The most common pass for a winger to make is when giving it to the fullback when fielding inside their 22 (since the fullback has a better angle to make a kick from) under no pressure. So yeah, I can deal with bad passing if the rest of their game is good.

I can't be certain he wasn't, but considering that he was still at school when that happened, I am pretty confident he wasn't. He certainly wasn't in the team for the final.

In any case, even if he was, the majority of his time at London Irish was when when they were a mid-table outfit.
