[2015 RWC] Pool B: South Africa vs. Japan (19/09/2015)

Matfield, Habana, JdV and Kirchner. It won't make much difference in terms of this match, but surely SA have some better/younger guys than that? I think Japan should reserve a couple of their key figures (such as Michael Leitch who has had a good season at the Chiefs) for the likes of Samoa and Scotland, and just play like mad men in those games. I'm not sure if this is the match the Japanese should expend all their neat tricks and top collective efforts.

Pienaar is the worst IMO. I'd have added Jannie du Plessis but TBF he had shut me up in his last two games.

Jannie better do well :p He's in my fantasy league team (can't make top picks in every single position).

If this is actually our starting 15 for the majority of the WC I'm thoroughly underwhelmed. To me though, it does look like HM is either trying things out or keeping things hidden, I can't imagine Kirchner starting ahead of Willie, he just offers so much less. In fact this back line in general looks flat apart from Jesse Kriel. Pollard, DDA and le Roux all lose out to more experienced, possibly more reliable but far less exciting players. Hopefully he just feels like he knows what he's getting in DDA and le Roux and is trying a few things out. Don't get me wrong, I'm frothing at the mouth, even for this game, the team is just a little uninspired.

Would not be my first choice haha, surely there is someone else.

Japanese team has been announced.

I'm no expert on Japanese rugby but as far as I can tell they don't seem to be fielding a 2nd string team.

Eddie Jones looking confident and hoping to catch us off guard?

Hope we don't end up regretting fielding ~7 2nd choice players ourselves.

I don't really care what type of team the Japanese are fielding, and all this talk of an upset on the cards or catching us off guard is a bit insulting. Am I the only one thinking that we will smash them???

Even with our so called second stringers, we are still far superior to them.

Jesse Kriel to get a hatrick, gg call it

The bookies say we'll win by 44.

I say we should win by at least 70!

Well, excuse me for managing my expectations LOL.

But seriously.. Pienaar, JdV, Matfield, Kirchner are all fine and dandy and up to it for a conservative approach. If we wanted to win by 70 we should've had a 9 that adds something, Pollard, DDA, Le Roux, Etzebeth and PSdT IE the guys that can inflate a score.

I also am picking Kriel for a couple. If it were Pollard and DDA on his inside with Le Roux adding something on attack I'd have gone big.

no offence, but those guys have all scored a bunch of tries for the Boks.

Matfield is the type of forward that can actually create space for others to run into. JDV, Kirchner are both physical guys, and Pienaar hasn't played bad all year. I think we are going to dominate them in the physicality department.

On SuperBru I said South Africa will win this with 16 points. Personally I don't think I underestimated the score, but this is one score I would not mind getting wrong if we manage to win with a lot more.

This is a difficult one. Like I previously said it could be tighter than one would imagine with us to pull in a try or two at the end or we could run away with it. Nothing would surprise me.

I do think Japan will struggle to contain our pack but I'm not convinced we'll capatilize especially as this will see new combinations right across the backline, perhaps over reliance on experienced players in dubious form or just question marks as we havn't seen them in an age and many who are expected to be rusty still. Also, don't forget we've struggled against lesser fancied teams under the 'interpretations' of French referees before (Scotland at home pushed us all the way and Argentina beat us recently). It could be we'll have to struggle at the breakdown again. If we get strict and accurate refereeing at the breakdown I'll add 20 to what I expect us to get, if those players whom I don't see as the form picks step it up for this one and the new combos click and the rusty players have worked it off during training then sure, add another 30. Big ifs though IMO.

I don't see us losing, I don't see it being close, and I do see us winning by a large margin. The team is still pretty average though, definitely a step backward. Not that I mind, we play a lot of rugby over the next couple weeks. No harm in giving the whole squad a run.

Also all this talk of less than 30 points is nonsense lads, this isn't Argentina, Japan has never won a WC game, we are gonna smash them :p. Don't mean to be disrespectful but it's just not on the cards.

edit: They could potential score a few tries however, if they use speed to get past us, apparently they are playing an ex-wing at 8, and Tanaka is a good distributor.

Actually. Japan has won 1 game in a world cup. In 1991 they beat Zimbabwe.

Look at the teams they played before this, all tier 2 teams. And it was all close affairs. I think they will get a shock when they play against us. This will be the first time These 2 teams play against each other.

That is true. I almost wish Jaque Fourie was fit enough and included in this squad and facing Japan. The man has scored a try against every national side he has faced. I think its 15 different teams. Japan could've been no.16.

Anyway, Kriel to score three here making it 5 tries in 5 matches and helping him on his way to get 9 tries in the tournament..

I see I'm not the only one who captained Kriel in fantasy rugby ;) .
