[2015 RWC] Pool A: Wales vs. Fiji (01/10/2015)

Let's face it I fully expect us to win this game and get the bp but stranger things have this world cup ref -SA. I can see why people do think Fiji have a decent chance tho , they gave England hell and Australia a tough match , now most people from them nations think that Wales are not up to their standard , obviously not me but that is the general feeling- 3 grand slams in 10 years never changed that so neither will beating England at home in the world cup either - We are always "lucky" or " they were poor" .
You were lucky on Saturday and we were poor.

As for the GS I've always felt that it was probably a bit more than Wales deserved but in equal measure England probably have less ***les than they deserve. But this mainly comes down to Gatland style of rugby and whilst it mat produce results it doesn't make a side look like convincing winners.

It's this kind of Humility that makes England everyone's second team :D

England are not a poor team. I actually take you to beat the Aussies - whereas, we could well struggle against Fiji. After all, that is not unknown. However, if you think luck had anything to do with the Welsh win, you are deluded - take a look at the second half again.

"Luck" is the wrong word pure grit and determination combined poor selection, subsititutions and decision making all round.

Those things are what I call "excuses"

No England are poor because they have a ****e coaching team and never make the right selections or decisions , so. You can have all the talent in the world if you can't make those simple basic calls then your a poor team

Not sure what your problem with the "excuses" are? You seam to agree they were the reasons we lost. I should also note most England fans were calling them to question from the minute they were leaked as they changed what probably should of been a comfortable win against an injury ravaged side Wales side (which would of been your excuse and a fair one had you lost) into a close match they we probably should have won still.

I don't really want to dig this up again. But you were really only in the game because of some shoddy refereeing at the scrum.

Aaarrrggghhh - my head hurts.

Instincts telling me this will be the final table so gonna stick my neck out.......
Aus - 17 pts
Eng - 12 pts
Wales 11 pts

My problem is that I've heard people on here and in the English press saying England dominated Wales for 60 mins and that is utter crap England may have had a slight upper hand in the contest but never ever dominated and a game of rugby is played over 80 mins, just because a side turns it on on the last 20 due to SUPERIOR FITNESS it does not mean they were lucky to win , had you won this match we would not be hearing none of these excuses like decision making and selection problems and I certainly wouldn't have said or used injuries as an excuse as I still thought we could beat you with the injuries, I would of said England won a tight contest which is what it was and what most people were expecting .

And a not very clever captain.

Good point!

I'm not saying don't analyse the areas where you lost the match , I'm just saying don't discount the effort of the other team and don't use words like lucky unless they are TRULEY lucky which on Saturday Wales were not.

He who laughs last .....didn't get the joke!

Feeling the nerves a bit today, lots of scenarios going around my head, what if the boys don't perform because they are mentally exhausted , what if its a lethargic performance , what if matthew morgan totally crumbles under the pressure, what if we push too hard for a bonus point and play into fiji s hands , but my biggest concern is the pack what if Fiji scrum us off the park that is a worry

I don't think Fiji will beat Wales but I also didn't think I'd ever see Japan beat SA . One can hope that Niki Goneva just runs Tyler Morgan into the ground and scores a hat-rick I suppose

I think the thing to remember about this match is it's not a regulation bonus point win. Australia failed to get there's and England ran it pretty fine as well. Fiji can consider themselves a little unlucky as well not to pick up a loosing BP despite the margins of loss so far. This Welsh side is also extremely battered and dealing with the epic amount of effort it took to beat England will have taken some toll on the team despite what they might say.

I expect Wales will win but I don't think they'll get the bonus point. Fiji might pick one up though.

I'm not laughing yet and probably won't even if England don't qualify, I genuinely feel for England fans (except the arrogant ones of course)
I am surprised at the lack of intelligence shown by Robshaw when kicking to touch, it may well be that that single decision has helped us qualify because a drawn game would have put England in the box seat.
Some time back I was slated on this forum for having a pop at Robshaw, generally my thoughts if I remember were that Warburton is a much better player and also a superior captain. The consensus from England fans was that he was maybe not a genuine 7 like Warbs and Tips, but was a better leader. It would be interesting to know how many of my detractors back then have changed their minds.

Maybe dominate isn't the right word, but when it was 22 - 10 England looked like they had control of the game, their defence was very solid, as was the scrum, Wales were not in the game, save for the occasional penalty. I didn't think England played particularly well, but they put themselves in a great position to put 30 points on Wales. I was expecting England to run away with it. The fact they didn't is down to their ineptitude rather than brilliant play by the Welsh. Never has the phrase - snatching defeat from the jaws of victory - been more apt...

I swing from euphoria, to utter despair! I can remember the RWC France game!! It was on in the early hours of the morning here in Japan. Unbeknown to me, my half Welsh, half Japanese son, who was then 2 had got up in the middle of the night and was listening to me watching the game, screaming and swearing at the screen! The next day,,,,he dropped his bottle of juice and said "Ah fekin hell papa!" The injuries, 4 day turnaround and the hounds of hell, tell me to be afraid,,,at times very afraid! :(
