2014 Six Nations: Wales

Anybody care to explain why Ian Evans has 13 weeks, whilst Nathan White who got cited for the exact same offence in the same week only got 3? It's an utter joke. Nick Wood got 8 weeks for the same offence earlier on as well this season, why the complete disparity between bans and why do the Irish always get away with it?

I imagine it's because Evans was red carded, so immediately goes into the 'higher bracket' of bans. White was (somehow) yellow carded, so would fall into the 'referee noticed it, took action blah blah blah' and therefore isn't as serious (rather like Horwill's stamp on AWJ, but as he was neither red nor yellow carded, got away scott free).

So if two players do the exact same thing, one gets red and the other gets yellow, the red is banned longer? I mean, with the way the rugby judicial system is I can buy it. White got off easy, both with the card and ban. I didn't expect anything else.

Nathan White's was one stamp in the face. Ian Evans seemed to have gotten Mike McCarthy several times. Doesn't help Ian, the way McCarthy's face looked like after the stamps either. White should have gotten more, but for me Evans' stamps were worse.

No but here's a lot of areas that hurt Evans:
He had previous record
He had already had red card this year
He did a lot more than 1 stamp
And he was red carded on the field.

White was carded and it was seen by ref and action was taken. It was a lesser of the 2 evils but also I think the refs action played apart. The fact TMO and refs agreed it was a yellow that if it was then upgraded to a red and lengthy ban that would have meant the refs were wrong and questions had to be asked of them. Unlike before where you could say the ref missed it or didn't get full picture now they get to study it all there's no excuse

How the hell has Rhys Webb managed to get back winning Wales caps? He's truly and utterly abysmal. Richie Rees must have really ****** off Gatland.

Funny how coaching staff will openly criticise some players, but their favourites are immune...
"I'm really disappointed in the half-back performance, in both Richard and Dan Biggar," Howley said.

Webb was lethargic when he came on. From my vantage point in the MS, Webb was walking to rucks and showed no urgency. People can criticise Lloyd for his box kicking and that but at least he shows urgency and a change of tempo when he comes on for Wales.

Considering both are tightheads ... No

Interesting ... He's back for Blues this weekend.

I think lee has bee playing tight head for scarlets and John has been playing loose head . I was impressed with john on the few occasions I've seen him this season

On form, Phil John should be in the squad and Samson Lee should be starting. Rhys Webb is also on great form at the moment and made a positive impact at the weekend, keeping the pace going just as Phillips began to stagnate. Wasn't the finest he's played of late, but I'm glad he got a shot. I'd lost faith in him, but he's proved me wrong since injury and deserves the bench spot for us.

He was poor when he came off the bench, and a couple of decent games against the Scarlets and Northampton (which were his first for about 2 years) isn't enough to constitute great form in my opinion, he resorted to his usual self with sub standard decision making and even found time for his usual abysmal kick. We have at least 6 scrum halves on merit better than Webb, and not all of them are that great either, I even prefer Knoyle and Gareth Davies.

And Phil John is simply not in the same league as Paul James and Gethin Jenkins by the way, this has been proven over and over for the last decade of regional derbies. Rob Evans looks like a talent though, he will overtake him soon at the Scarlets and hopefully push out Bevington who has regressed this season.
