[2014 Mid-Year Tests] Ireland

Trimble is certainly ahead of Earls! Boy oh boy is he ahead of Earls. And he was before his impressive 6N as well!

Been honest before 6 Nations the 2 wingers were Fitzgearld and Earls. They were 2 guys head and shoulders outplaying everyone else. Trimble took his chance and Ireland have got 4/5 wingers now so that Schmidt can easily pick on form and keep everyone on toes

Trimble was certainly not ahead of Earls before the 6N. They're two completely different players. Earls is extremely quick and agile. Trimble is strong on the carry and an excellent tackler.
Apples and oranges but if you were watching Munster pre 6N Earls was on fire and would definitely have made the team. Now however I couldn't justifiably drop Trimble.

No other thread to really put this as far as I can tell. Was announced yesterday.

In the Junior World championship thread in the international section. ;)

Yes I was embarassed by it appearing above this thread. Unfortunately Ii used the search function which isn't particulary good here.

Any potential bolter candidates or new caps? Marmion, Leader, Hanrahan, Keatley, Foley, Casey, J Cronin, Reid, Cave etc..

I don't expect all that much change from the six nations really. Not a bad thing either. We had a good tournaments, might as keep the guys who were involved there. I imagine we'll see McGrath and Moore get starting time in the front row, while Paulie might get a bit of time off. Jackson should get both tests, and Cave has to start at least one. Game time for Henshaw and Ruddock would be desirable too.

Word is that Sean is looking to tour.

POM will be out until Nov. so there's 1 spot. Had his other shoulder done Tuesday and knee next week

I'd give Keatley some time on the tour, he's upped his game a lot this season. Cave and Marmion should get minutes as well.

Believe him and Hanrahan have to get their groin infections operated on this summer?

Apart from Sexton Keatley has been Ireland's best out half this year and he's not ancient by any means. I would like to see him get some game time this Summer. Of Madigan or Jackson though its gotta be Jackson.
I hope all the Ulster boys get fit for the tour
I think Foley deserves his game too, he's been outstanding this year. Give Zebo his run out at some stage.
Id like both McGrath and Moore to start. I know McGrath is and will be excellent but Im not sure of Moore. I think he's overrated because, well he's a Tighthead. Then again who else do we have?
Game time for Henshaw and Marmion if possible.
Im not saying I want all of these guys in at once. I know we need to keep a squad but these guys deserve a crack.

Infection? Is that the word you meant to use?

Couldn't really call Cave a bolter tbh.

Article here would suggest that the Argentina tour might be more full strength than first suggested - http://www.independent.ie/sport/rug...ommit-to-june-tour-of-argentina-30255003.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osteitis_pubis non infectious but I've seen it described as an infection but not your run of the mill injury. Was the one PO'C had so much trouble with. I may be horribly wrong with this though.

Unfrotunately yes it probably will be a full (or close enough) strength tour. Seeing as Argentina basically have to play a second or even third string team I'd have preferred some experimentation. I know full well this is unlikely to be the squad but it's one I'd have picked.

Looseheads: McGrath, Kilcoyne, Cronin - Healy's had some injury problems so I'd let him recuperate, Court won't be picked or at least most probably won't and it pretty much picks itself otherwise.

Tightheads: Moore, Ah You, Ross - I want a closer look at Ah You, Ross is 34 so I'd nearly prefer to leave him behind but I believe he could be useful for the younger tightheads. I'd at most have him bench for one game.

Hookers: Best, Cronin, Strauss - As far as I can remember Best hasn't been overplayed at all this season due to his injury, same with Cronin and Strauss who are both young. I'm sure arguments can be made for Herring and whichever Munster hooker people feel like.

Locks: Toner, Henderson, Tuohy, McCarthy/Foley - I highly doubt PO'C will be left off the plane and he'd probably swim to Argentina but I'm trying to be nice to him. There's decent cases for both Foley and McCarthy. I think Henderson is mainly being seen as a lock at the moment.

Flankers: Henry, Ruddock, Murphy - Probably controversial to leave out TO'D, I don't know why I did it.

Number 8's: Copeland, Heaslip (c) - Don't think there's really any other options anyway. Wilson and Coughlan are unlikely to be considered and McKeon is probably to lightweight. Copeland to start at least one test.

Scrumhalves: Marmion, Reddan - Murray will probably tour but I feel he's played a lot of rugby and could do with some rest. If he was to come I'd put him in for Reddan having him on the bench. I'd also possibly let him have a whack at the placekicking when he came on.

Outhalves: Jackson, Madigan - I think Sexton should be left at home. While people saying he was way overplayed for Racing he has played a lot since the Lions. I'm presuming Hanrahan and Keatley as out.

Centres: Marshall, Cave, Henshaw - This is tough I should probably have D'arcy in there especially if we're trialling our next 13 but **** it. Earls would be ok to cover centre in an emergency on a tour like this.

Wings: Earls, Trimble, Zebo, Bowe - I'd love to put Fitzgerald in but yeah can't really, I'm not sure if McFadden will be back in time. Fairly harsh to leave out DK but I just feel we'd be better off with these guys.

Fullback : Kearney - Zebo and Henshaw can cover if necessary.

29 compared to our squad of 28 last year.

Potential uncapped players include Dave Foley, Kieran Marmion and Robin Copeland. Ian Keatley may have pushed ahead of Ian Madigan as the 3rd choice 10 and could also tour.

Ah right. Entertain me BG8 - who would you put in the Emerging Ireland squad out of the guys left?

If O'Donnell doesn't tour Jordi Murphy's godmother's son gets it!

Some people are trying to study Peat! So yeah ok. I forgot about the Emerging Ireland tour so expect a lot of wtf? and possibly a team not good enough to beat Romania, Russia or Uruguay.

Looseheads: Buckley, Court/Black - I quite like Buckley, he's probably just a little undersized for a top level prop. I don't know if Court would want to go. I'd back Black to do a job.

Hookers: Herring, Casey - Annett went last year so maybe I dould throw him in but I'm interested in seeing more of Casey.

Tightheads: Bent, Furlong, Lutton - I believe you were one of the ones who based on the JWRC rated Furlong higher than Sinkler and Lee. I want him to get gametime of any kind because I believe he can be a star. Lutton is there as cover for both sides. I'm not sure if maybe Warwick should be ahead of him?

Locks: McCarthy/Foley, Kearney, Nagle - They only brought two last year. I think Kearney has potnetial, Nagle went last year and the only other option I can think of is DO'C but that would be cruel. Diack can cover as well.

Flankers: Ryan, O'Donnell, Diack, Gilsenan - First three are fairly obvious imo given what we have. Gilsenan is there on his potnetial alone. Bit of a dick move towards the likes of Dougall and Muldoon but it's unlikely either will be playing for the senior team in at all.

Number 8's: McKeon, Conan - Similar logic with Conan. Tough on Wilson and Coughlan but Conan is ready for his chance.

Scrumhalves: Marshall, McGrath - Marshall seems to have found his form again in recent weeks not sure if I should have Heaney. McGrath also appears to have over taken Cooney as well.

Outhalves: Marsh, McKinney - Not the most inspiring choices I admit but both do have some potential. Marsh has done quite well in the B&I.

Centres: Reid, Sheridan, Griffin - Reid's been in excellent form the other two aren't too bad either.

Wings: Gilroy, Kearney, Conway, Healy - Some nice quality there, probably some better than Healy that I'm not thinking of. I'm not sure how serious O'Hallorn's injury is. Maybe Morris?

Fullbacks: Leader, Andrew - Don't really see the point in bringing Jones. Leader's looked good and I think Andrew's ok for this.

I've probably forgotten some but overall it's not too shabby. I'm not sure who should be captain but I'm leaning towards Ryan.

If O'Donnell doesn't tour Jordi Murphy's godmother's son gets it!

I'm quite happy with that.

Lads Jordi Murphy has done nothing to deserve travelling. Not saying TOD has either because his form has been average since Ireland scapegoated him but is better than Murphy. Flankers that will go are Henry and Ruddock deservingly. D. Ryan is a possibility or use Henderson as 6 as locks are well stocked.
Keatley will be available to tour if required and certainly deserves to be 2nd choice based on form although hasn't it been said already Sexton won't tour due to his wife giving birth and he has played too much

Yes the way TO'D was scapegoated was horrible....

Nothing's been confirmed about Sexton yet. I don't think Keatley has overtaken Jackson, who's form has been pretty good as well.
