[2014 Mid-Year Test] U.S.A. vs. Scotland 07/06/14

TRY for Scotland. All down to the pace of Hogg, and all because he won that catch. Nothing to do with any great Scottish play, the situation just fell into place for him.

Well with 30 seconds left it's a fairly comfortable Scottish win, but far from inspiring. No real ball retention. No working through phases. Job done I guess but...

good result but poor game need the errors to drop for next weeks game btw does anyone know who got MOTM ?

Yeah, pretty poor game, both sides had a number of errors, but there was some positives for Scotland. Plus hopefully this will build some confidence in the squad for next week! It was Hogg that got Man of the Match I think.

From watching the USA in their last two matches, I feel they could really use with finding themselves a new scrum-half. His distribution from the base of rucks seemed to be very slow, but hey im no expert on such things.
The USA will have to go some if they want to give the All Blacks at least a half decent game in November :(

Also Pascal Gauzere supported on the line by Francisco Pastrana, two terrible refs will always make for a poor game. All they needed was Jaco Peyper doing the other line and they would have had the full set.

To be fair to both teams the game was played in ridiculous temperatures. Apparently the US team actually refused the offer of having water breaks in the belief that they would be able to cope better and put the Scots at a disadvantage. Given the temperatures I can imagine that any national team out there would struggle. That said, given the Scots are next playing in the more friendly temperatures of Toronto next there has to be a marked improvement.

The scrumhalf situation is laughable at this point. Tolkin only brought 1 other specialist scrumhalf into a camp of 40 players! He's gone all in on Petri and it's pathetic at this point. Anyone watching can see Petri is just not good enough anymore. Check out this gif that Usausa posted on the Tier 2 forum:

Seemed like a hell of a scrappy game from what I saw of it last night. That Visser try was just ridiculously easy, kinda summed up Petri too... Reminds me of Rhys Webb in that he does occasionally have some great plays, but ruins it with numerous brain farts, like that horrible defensive lapse.
That said, was impressed by a couple of the US players, in particular Dolan at 8 who did surprisingly well off the back of a scrum that was demolished time and time again. Seamus Kelly looked like quite a tidy centre too, put a great hit in on Finn Russell at one point.
