[2014 EOYT] Scotland

imagine if Matt Scott wasn't Fit.

Easy enough ;)

Think Seymour has to start, and would have Maitland too, because I don't think we lose much try scoring threat, but gain in defence, and general play (simple things like retaining ball in contact, kick chase etc)

thats true but idk i like visser btw what is your favourite scottish team ?

I've been a big Castres fan the past 2-3 years. Max Evans is just one heck of a class winger, seriously, ppl have no fkng idea. He's of the special kind, the kind of guy who adds a little extra to every ball he gets, and isn't one-dimensional. Heck I'd pick him for France at some point down the line.
Anyways the Argentina game is going to be tougher now than it seemed some months ago...Scotland can certainly, at home, hope for 2 out of 3.
I'm sure they'll get Tonga this time around. If Scotland is going to beat the All-Blacks one day, it's not right now. And the Pumas are going to have lots of weapons this time around, not just a big scrum...

the argentine pack will be tough but scotland's scrums are pretty good aswell so hopefully we wont let Argentina use the scrums to they're advantage.

Don't feel any great connection with either, sort of half support both. Tend towards Edinburgh, but only because I'm from Aberdeen, so have the rivalry with Rangers, which is a good arbitrary reason to mock dislike the city's rugby team.

good choice, but see if scotland do look into a third team up in aberdeen i suppose you'll be following them ;)

Due to Grant Gilchrist injury in edinburgh's game against Lyon, Jim Hamilton returns to the squad, idk if i'm happy or not. :|

EDIT: Hamish Watson too got injured in the same game and is ruled out for the tests, I'm really gutted he had huge potential for our future in the backrow, no replacement it made yet so who are you hoping for ? @Will @g6mcg @IainTheScot i really hope Kelly Brown gets called up, but i think its either him, John Barclay or Roddy Grant

EDIT 2: The backrow replacement will be announced tomorrow aswell as captain, I think favours go to Laidlaw for captain but i hope Kelly Brown (if picked) gets it

It's a sore one for Gilchrist, I was looking forward to a Jonny Gray and Gilchrist second row partnership, oh well, hope he recovers soon! I'm not sure who will be captain though, I have a feeling that Brown will be called up anyway, with Laidlaw as captain.

yeah i can see that too even though its not one i really hope for tbh i want to see Brown there with him captain.

I hope they do because they look the goods. Last week against a Bath that's been setting the Aviva Premiership alight Glasgow crushed them. They played the best game of round one. Yesterday against Montippeller there was a play where it was Montippeller 's line out where they won and set up a maul. Glasgow didn't challenge the maul instead they let only one player to go through and took down the Montippeller player in the process collapsing the maul. I thought penalty to Montippeller but apparently because there was no maul since Glasgow didn't challenge it became a scrum to Glasgow. I was impressed and thought wow this Glasgow players are not only awesome but they know how to play the law. Very impressive indeed. The Glasgow captain will be in line for a move to Toulon soon he's on the next level mann.

The Glasgow captain for that guy is a South African but can qualify to play for scotland which i hope he does, but with the team glasgow had there was only one player in the starting XV who wasn't Scottish, Gregor Townsend is a really good coach and has coached Glasgow really well,

That's really good for Scotland. The way Glasgow are playing if Scotland adopts that style they'll cause a few upsets. I see a similar style to the new Springboks game plan which is refreshing. One thing I noticed is that Glasgow seems really fit. Their conditioning is very impressive.

Scotland with Coaches are actually pretty good, Vern Cotter manages the national team, Gregor Townsend with Glasgow warriors who shows to have a really good understanding with the glasgow players and know what is needed and Alan Solomons for Edinburgh who coached teams like the Stormers, Northampton, Ulster and the Barbarians and the Southern Kings, and he really knows how to coach trying out players to see what would work for the teams.

That's sounds like Scotland are developing nicely under the radar. Something tells me they'll be a surprise package beginning with EOYT culminating in the world cup next year.

I would be very happy to be wrong but I do think that we are looking at a false dawn.......................let us see what November brings as to their strengths and weaknesses after Cotter's arrival.

I do wish them the best of luck though as we need a strong Scotland back on the international stage.....

Well if the way Glasgow has been playing past two seasons is anything to go by then I'm positively excited at their prospect. I've always liked Scotland. Beautiful country and lovely people.

looking at the performance off Glasgow and Edinburgh they do look like they have a good depth in attack (not too much edinburgh but glasgow especially but had some good moments). which is something scotland really needs, but scotland needs a stronger defence especially if we are ever going to have a good shot at the all blacks in november

All Blacks tend to score most of their tries from around the 4th phase onwards. So Scotland will have to tighten up on their scrambling defence because their counter attack especially in Glasgow's case is developing nicely. Most 6 nation teams except maybe France have a tendency to boot it out when they win possession in broken play which the All Blacks will expect but if Scotland attacks rather then boot then that's where they can cause trouble. In 2011 when Fiji played All Blacks they scored 2 tries from counter attacks. It's the one area the All Blacks have always been vanurable and when the Springboks beat them they did exactly that. They built their game plan around counter attack. Fiji does that in sevens against New Zealand and they mostly work.
