Since the International Calendar(barring two Hong Kong matches) has wrapped up for another year. I thought it would be nice to look back at some of the best matches of 2010. I think the five in particular that stand out for me were.

1. Australia 41-39 South Africa (Tri Nations) Absolutley incredible game, Wallabies out to a big lead but SA came back huge, Beale wins it with a massive penalty at the death.

2. New Zealand 23-22 Australia (Tri Nations) All Blacks take advantage of the mercurial nature of Australia in the last minutes to end the Tri Nations with a perfect record.

3. Wales 31-24 Scotland (Six Nations) Still haunts me as someone who cheers for the Scots in the Six Nations they should have had this one if the team hadn't have had a collective mental breakdown in the last ten minutes. Full credit to Wales they took advantage with some great scores.

4. Canada 33-27 France A (Churchill Cup) Obviously as a Canadian this one has extra meaning for me, but I really think the 2nd half was one of the best halves of rugby played all year. Game had it all brilliant tries by both teams, long distance penalties, a drop goal and a huge upset that really went down to the last minute.

5.Australia 26-24 New Zealand (Bledisloe Cup) Finally the AB's magnificent run of dominance ends, the two best teams in the world combine for another thrilling encounter.

Honourable mentions.
Scotland 23-20 Ireland (Six Nations) The last game at Croke Park comes down to the wire, Dan Parks shows why he is possibly the greatest game managing player in the world today by pulling a Scottish team that had played hard but finished poorly to a win.

England 35-18 Australia (End of year tests) England played probably the best game I have seen them play since 2003, in front of a raucous crowd at Twickeham this game has me exctied about the upcoming Six Nations campaign.

The Southern Hemisphere does feature heavily in my best games of the year but this years Tri Nations had some thrilling encounters, while the Six Nations was low on tries and there were several blowouts. Australia to me is probably the most exciting(AB's are still the most talented) team in the world to watch it seems like every game they play in brings out the best in both teams. If they ever find a great goal kicker and a functional scrum the AB's might have to watch out.

95,000 crowd, john smit's 100th game which was going to be south africa's turning point in the tri nations, big crowd & emotional buildup made for a very hostile environment for the AB's. Boks looked on course with Steyn's boot keeping them ahead till McCaw scored with just a few min on the clock. Carter MISSED the conversion and the scores stayed locked together. Springboks quickly went hot on attack after winning posession with time almost up but for a brilliant turnover which I think involved Mealamu then Mills who found Nonu running onto the ball who Burst through the tackle of John Smith with one less boot than he had before he hit the line and sprinted clear. Mills on support close by had the attention of the defence but Israel Dagg gassed up clear on the ourside and held onto a majestic pass from nonu and ran it in with time almost up on the clock.

Tears of joy on one side and tears of anguish on the other, Epic game with an epic result.

Game of the year without question.

Purely as an AB supporter this game stands out because it's the AB's home ground for the WC and even with reduced capacity the current world champions simply weren't in the contest. The most dominant AB performance over SA since the 19 - 0 win in 2008. Also IMO was the passing of the ***le of best #8 in the world from Spies to Read.

You missed the passing of Speis to Heslip my friend Heslip gave it to read (although I still would rater Heslip over Read)

Hard to pick, for me,
England two victories over Australia are obviously two of my favorite :p But I also think our loss to NZ Maori was a brilliant match too,

Pretty much all 3N matches this year were fantastic too, the NZ/SA that NZ won with Daggs try on the death, and the AUS/SA one that Aus won on the death with Beales penalty (was that the one where both teams scored tries within like 5minutes of starting?) were standouts

Every Tri Nations game. They were just all fantastic matches.

Well been honest all 6 Nations matches were boring apart from some sparks of magic so no doubt it in SH that this award would go

France v England was a good match. The rest of the 6 nations was a bit pooh pooh though.

Agreed Bullit that was probably best game of 6Nations but still a good bit off SH. I think the fact our national team here are slightly negative contributes to that.
Like while Ashton and Foden for example are very good in England shirt, they are alot better at Saints. Leinster backs are better in blue than green. Scotland backs are well Scotland backs just doing basics.

Seems to be the consensus that all the European test sides don't equal the sum of their parts.

My question is though why are we able to produce top quality rugby at club level with some beautiful attacking rugby yet at international it isn't as adventurous

Because club players train together week in, week out, know each others gameplans and their team-mates. Their skillsets generally compliment each other thanks to training.

Test players however meet up once every 6-8 weeks, do a promotional photoshoot, get played out of position, all have different ideas about how to play in a winning way and aren't as tightly nit purely because they're not all together 52 weeks a year.

In Ireland Bullitt the national team train almost every month together for a few days but even so players are showing the asset side of game for club yet not allowed do it at international level because of gameplans etc.

In Ireland, Bullit, the national team players train together for a few days almost every month during the year (bar offseason of course), but despite this, the players continue to only show the 'assets' (strengths?) of their gameplay for their clubs, as the national team's gameplan prohibits them from doing so for Ireland

Is that what you were trying to say/state
If so, I don't think those few days a month do any good whatso-ever, the Tri-nations teams have their teams from the end of the S14, until the end of the Tri-Nations, which is a period of 3/4/5 months, which is more than enough time, imo, to get the squad to gel probably.

Those few days together would best serve players meeting new squad members, and getting to know them, which is probably what they are used for

That Canada game was great. I remember watching the highlights and not believeing that we did it. There was great players in the French A side.

Purely because of the way I actually went deaf for over a minute after Shane scored whilst sitting in the crowd, I'm going with Wales Vs. Scotland.

I would have given my right ball to have been at the Mill that day.

Wales vs. Scotland - 6 Nations
Wales vs. New Zealand - AI
