Ireland v South Africa - 22/11/2025

in fairness to Carley, what is he meant to do when Ireland are constantly infringing?.

The scrum had not moved when Porter got the penalty against. Other scrums had been bad, on Furlong's side mostly, but that was horseshit.

Also what do you expect a home crowd that's seen 4 cards for their team in the first half to do?
Sadly the ref has been bang on with all his calls despite the SA possible red

Maybe by the end Ireland can pull something off, but this game has been spoilt by cards. I'm not a fan of Carley, but I don't think it's his fault and I actually think he was generous not to give another one for the penalty try. Only main decision was that S.A should have had a yellow.

Agree with all of this. Most of the cards he didn’t have a choice, but SFM should’ve gotten a yellow. This is just not a classic though. Maybe things change in the second half though (also agree that he has technically shirked the rules by not giving a card for a penalty try)

Issue is Porter is dropping alot. It is noticeable. It very hard argue against ref in any of calls against Ireland. Only on South Africa the 10 possibly a red, and Marx should have got HIA on Ryan call

Have a friend who's mostly a soccer fan with me. He's disgusted and so confused by the inconsistency.
Yea this is my concern. There was a podcast this week with Schalk Burger and Jean De Villiers, and Jean was saying how his friends mom had Dutch friends watching the rugby with them and they were struggling to explain the rules and consistency of things with them. If you have professionals struggling with the interpretations, how are more casual fans meant to explain what’s going on to potential convert fans to the game

Wow. So many things going on.

First: given what has happened the past 2 weeks (this is key, i.e. consistency, etc), in what parallel universe was RSA's 10 not a RC? How was that not "always illegal". Contact to the head, with force. What the **** are we talking about? The ref said in front of tens of thousands, and i quote: "we are not convinced this is a no arms tackle". He should be escorted to an ambulance and sent either to an optometrist or to a mental asylum.

Then Ireland's red card. No issues there, except maybe with the law itself. Two south africans fail to adjust their height in a tackle, in extremely dynamic situations? Straight red. An irish launches himself as a battering ram at a stationary south african head? 20 min red. What the actual fvck. Seriously. Just think how you would explain that to someone who started playing.

Ire's 14 penalty. I am ok with that. I dont understand, i really do not, how the ref sees that, checks the play on the screen 4 times, and thinks: "ok, lets reset the scrum and move on" only to recapacitate after being told that maybe, just maybe, that warrants a HIA. Hard to believe the "we care about player welfare" argument after watching things like that.

One question, help me fill in the gaps. Last minute of 1H. Ireland has 3 YCs. Penalty try for RSA. Who got the 4th YC? I never saw the ref handing it out. If no 4th YC, why not?

That scrum was completed though...
Yes but if dropping he is entitled to call it in and sadly the picture is painted. Porter is struggling all day and that causing the ref to decide too. In fairness to Carley I think he held back on carding us as much as he could. Sam yellow could have been given along time before. And Porters was for scrum issues all day

Need a new scrum coach. Scrum barrelling backwards before the collapse each time, mostly on the tight head side. Not sure any loose head could do much about it

Lol technically he needs to give a yellow card for a penalty try no?
EXACTALY. I was focusing on him and he either a) didnt award the card or b) the tv skipped that part. I am waiting to see if Ire begin's the 2H with 11 or 12 players. This isnt a minor oversight. This is a huge mistake.

It had not dropped when the penalty was given

So was Marx holding his face for theatre then?
No, he still got hit in the head. I’m saying from a reading for potential concussion it wasn’t picked up on G force or whatever they measure. That doesn’t mean a shoulder to the face is not unpleasantly sore.
