Think BOD is right. Unlucky for Steward but he does have a responsibility and Keenan is now off and probably game over.

• Sudden / significant drop in height or change in direction from ball carrier
• A late change in dynamics due to another player in the contact
• An effort to wrap / bind and having no time to adjust.

I guess it's whether you'd argue he had control, whether Keenan shifted/changed line trying to get the ball in full speed and whether he had any time to adjust...

I feel bad for Steward because he saw it late and probably did what we'd all do which is turn your body to brace for impact. That said it's a straightforward red call. High degree of danger, contact to head, no dio, wrap or any mitigation. I agree with some here that it's a bit of a gap, because he didn't enter that situation intending to make a tackle, but it's about the outcome not intention.

Good spot from Wilko that it looked like the ball was gonna be hacked on and Steward reacts to that, but then Keenan grabs it and Stewards in no man's land with what he can do

Yeah, at that point Peyper is saying he should plan for Keenan to angle to kick it, but then pull out and catch the ball almost horizontally. More I look at it the more I feel red is just harsh considering some of the reckless head contacts we see.

In full speed you can definitely argue a sudden change in height.

This is the thing: BC gets the ball a mili second before so he cant attempt to tackle earlier. BC is also leaning forward, so head first. Peyper said 'you were upright'. How the **** is he supposed to position himself if the guy grabs the ball on his face. True, he could have chosen not to contest. Turning the body is, imo, clearly not to attempt to stop the BC but to protect himself from the collision. Almost instinctive. We're watchin most of the replays in slow mow from our couches. It's fast a ****.

If you dont time things perfectly (and know that!) the only move is not to contest and wait, which gives bc momentum. I get why is a red. My point is that he was very, very unlucky.

Yeah agree with this. Again, most of us are agreeing that this is technically a red card. But sometimes it just feels like a race to the bottom with more and more measures and rules that are proooooobably sensible but ultimately trying to work around the fact that rugby is a dangerous game

Again, I'm sympathetic, but Steward didn't dip. There's a pretty good reason for that, but the outcome is a shoulder to head and thus red. Rightly or wrongly the duty of care falls entirely on Steward. There's no other decision the ref could make, even if in principle we don't like or agree with it.
