Looks like Canada's 1995 RWC atrocity (http://theeastterrace.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/04/o-canada-the-horror-the-horror.html) now has some competition for the worst kit of all time.

Austria's national team are to play in this ...

The Canadian jerseys in 1995 were slightly less horrifying in their red version....

 HOLY CRAP !!! Never saw those !! Like no offense Canada, but those are absolutely AMAZING !!!!!!
That Austrian one is just simply intentional, I mean it's got to be...I think it's provocation or smt.

Haaaa that's a hilarious kit! Gonna assume that the shorts are brown and look like lederhosen, to go with the whole traditional Austrian/German look?
I reckon it's a bit of a laugh, and why not? Definitely mixing a bit of their culture into the kit!

Also just putting it out there, lederhosen = bloody comfortable.

^ it's funny coz my dad always tells me about them lol. From his childhood. Apparently you'd use one pair only coz the fabric was just that good, and you could go and do anything with them (muddy, rainy etc...).
But it's a totally country-side thing though, you still wear em ?!

I liked the Canadian '95 shirts. At least they were different and you easily tell it was Canada playing. Oh, and Al Charron is a ledge.

Love that Austria jersey and I suspect the ORV (Austria's RFU) love it too. It's got a bunch of British, Irish, French, North Americans etc talking about Austrian Rugby in a roundabout way which I suspect was the whole point of launching an outlandish jersey.

Little Guy: btw, just watched the complete vid just now. Pretty nice try !
Totally off-topic but you guys had a solid team back then by the looks of it...it SUCKS that you were in a pool with both Australia AND South Africa, I mean wtf srsrly ? They should have just put the AllBlacks in there while they were at it you know...

My sentiments exactly yoe91 but to be fair our pool in 1991 was fairly weak and we got into the QF's, sometimes the draw is with you sometimes it isn't. 1999 after this was the last hurrah of most of the crew you seen in the try(Charron got to a 4th RWC in 2003) and is widely considered a dissapointment since we really should have advanced to at least the knockout's since 1999 had an odd format with some 3rd place teams advancing.

This is Charron's most important try for Canada from still arguably Canada's greatest game in International rugby a win over Wales in Cardiff. It leads off at the very beggining.

Yup, no doubt Canada in the 90's and Canada now just isn't NEARLY comparable in terms of the impact on the field...the scores were a whole lot tighter back then...what 1/4 Final was it that they got a really nice score against NZ, like 91 I think...anyways, too off-topic ! Gotta respect the thread writer.

Little Guy, most of that Canada team you referred to (apart from Gareth Rees) actually stayed on to play in 2003 RWC. Most of that team played a role in Canada's draw against Ireland (a match they were leading 21-8 at HT http://www.espnscrum.com/statsguru/rugby/match/23806.html) and away win over Italy (http://www.espnscrum.com/statsguru/rugby/match/23873.html) in 2000. They also beat Scotland in 2002 (http://www.espnscrum.com/statsguru/rugby/match/24229.html), and gave England a pretty decent match in 2001 and were just losing 5-3 at HT (http://www.espnscrum.com/statsguru/rugby/match/23994.html).

Unfortunately though, a fair few of that generation were over the hill by 2003, and results declined significantly over the next few years. Some of that generation like Rod Snow, Jon Thiel, Mike James and Morgan Williams even stayed on to play in 2007 in their mid-late 30's.

It's good to see Canada showing some signs over the past couple of years though of getting out of that slump, they are not perhaps at the level of before, but an improvement on the 2003-2008 years. I don't know what went wrong during that period for Canada.

^ yeah, aesthetically they don't look bad, it's just they're such a caricature with those stars parading all over the jersey...

I lik the Canadian and American jerseys mentioned by the way...
