Winning Top 14 bigger than H Cup - even O'Gara says so

bit silly putting Montpellier in that context as they have only be in the elite 9 seasons and the H Cup for the last 3 seasons, would you mention the H Cup glory of Connacht or Exeter i doubt it !!!!!!!!!!
Look at the money and squad they have, if Exeter had the Montpellier team and didn't get out of their group I would say how bad they have done.

Who cares? It might be harder to win, but it can't be Europe's premier competition when it's missing the likes of Saracens, Leicester, Northampton, Ulster, Munster and Leinster, some of the top sides in the continent. I don't see the point of this thread except as a dick swinging contest.
Ospreys, Blues... Hang on,

Not sure how many times this has to be said but just for Saffycen...........
The TOP 14 is far more important than the H Cup in France the budget has nothing to do with it!!!
double the budgets and the answer is still the same. i talk to loads of players and please please ask Jonnie Wilko his reponse it will always be the TOP 14 even before they won the H Cup he realised it after they lost the final to Castres!!!!!!!!! i would say 99% of players playing in France would say the TOP 14!!!
Budgets do not come into it, yes of course we have more money than the rest of European clubs but that's the way it is no one is going to change this and no one is going to change what French clubs put as their priority the TOP 14!!!!the answer to this thread was always obvious if you lived in France!!!!!
MUST NOW BE TIME TO PUT THIS BABY TO BED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand that, if you look at my first post I said that the French care more about the league. You asked if I would say how bad Exeter have done because their success in the HCup, and I responded if they had the same amount of money as the French then I would say they have done badly. Jesus Christ trying to have a discussion with MOST of the French people on here is ****ing impossible, if you don't just say FRANCE ARE THE GREATEST AND THE TOP 14 IS JUST SO GOOD I WISH WE HAD THE SAME THING OVER IN ENGLAND they just get so annoyed at you for not seeing it their way. And to them it is the only way.

How many Frenchmen have ever won a Super Rugby ***le? 0
How many kiwis win the Top 14? At least 2 last year, 5 this year regardless of who wins the final

=

Super Rugby much harder to win. For all their money - no French club has ever made it to a Super Rugby QF!!!! BOOM!

its not about seeing it anybodies way!! its the way it is, of course everybody in France says that the TOP 14 is the best, of course they would, as the Irish and English say the same about their Championship, again you mentioned money and budgets,if we had smaller budgets than anone else the answer is still the same, whether you like it or not that is the way it is, TOP 14, 1st, and foremost H Cup is there but retains nowhere near the importance of the Top 14 WHY, cannot any except it is just that, if you guys prefer the H Cup over your Championship all well and good nobody is argueing or getting annoyed, we just want you to understand how it is!!! please except it as it is, it will never change. Absolutely nothing to do with money budgets at all, of course they help, everyone knows that, but in France the TOP 14 is our only GOD I personally love the H Cup for entertainment values and my lovely 4 day trips to Ireland Scotland Wales Italy and England, its a nice change but that is all it is. If we do well excellent but winning on Sat against Racing and going directly into the Semis against Clermont or Castres is magnificent, all the boys went in their full kit straight after the handshakes and the Lap of Honnour to the bodega and most came back 1/2 hrs later in their jocks having given all away to the supporters this happens in the TOP 14 but never in the H Cup read my match article on the montpellier-ruby.com site go to the site and look under supporters and steve's chronicles, that will give you an idea what this is all out. Cheers....

Everyone has misunderstood ROG here, probably a translation error. He's not saying winning the Top 14 is a bigger deal, he's just talking about their physical size. Look:

Winning the Top 14 is bigger because the trophy is bigger.

I agree with the entertainment value bit.

And I've said, from that point of view, 6N is a pisser for entertainment value compared with Top14, and that our league is harder to win than the H Cup, which it is.

It was just a simple observation. No need to get upset over it.

and its kind of funny to hear O'Gara saying today Top 14 is bigger than H Cup.

Haven't seen any of the French league so can't comment on how hard it is to win. Don't doubt that it is bigger for the French than any other tournament and theres nothing wrong with that. The big problem is the foreign influx of slightly over the hill players who have flooded the French league and come for one big last pay day. The French identity has gone as a result and the Rugby is dreadful (O'Gara said that was the biggest shock for him). The French game used to be exciting with moments of skill as the French would play with flair and open running Rugby. This has gone now due to the foreign influx.

On why French now play boring rugby;

One fan, policeman Alain Pietau, who also trains a junior side in his spare time, told me that because of the foreign influx, the famous "French flair" - a fast paced, risk taking and attractive attacking style was disappearing from the game.

The French are under pressure to copy the stodgy game played elsewhere that is boring to watch - but ultimately more successful. The biggest challenge of all may also be the hardest to resolve - the game has yet to capture mass appeal outside this region. The rugby authorities based in Paris have been trying for years to bridge the gap, with limited success.

As the article outlines, French Rugby is now boring and without any French identity, and as a result the French national team have never been worse. Also because its so dull the game is alien to the French who are renowned for being flamboyant and putting style over substance. The hope of expanding Rugby beyond the southwest of France is dead due to what's on show. No French kid is gonna be inspired watching turgid Rugby unlike previous generations who watched Sella, Saint Andre and co. I used to enjoy watching France so it's a shame their identity has gone and they play foreign Rugby.

there is some tremendous, astronomically powerful bs on this thread. Very powerful, overwhelming stuff. I'm quite speechless over one user in particular. Keep up the good work, this is mind-boggling material, forget the "Make me Laugh TRF" thread. It's that very vivid feeling that surely there must be some sort of irony or humor, but then again it's very possible there isn't at all - and THAT is gold in bars. Glorious wealth. I hope this goes on.

I enjoy the Aviva Premiership! Yeah so not really related but there.

And you actually believe this how naive, and as far as ageing over the hill players go tell that to the Irish lovers of Jonny Sexton, the Welsh's Jamie Roberts and the English's Toby Flood just to mention a few oh and not forgetting all the rest who come for a last pay day who are still under 30... and i saw in person Ronan O'Gara's influence chez nous on Sat afternoon he left with his head down and a F****** large bag full of the 44 points that we stuck up him and his beloved Racing Metro !!!!!!!!!!

"how naive" *not sure if serious*

The dissapearance of French flair and the boring "stodgy" game now on show is one of the main reasons the French have never been worse. Us winning in Paris recently was abit "meh". Not the big deal it was previously. It's a shame the foreign influx means the French have lost their identity as they were by far the most entertaining team in Rugby. Jerry Guscott is probably the most vociferous in his comments about how dull French Rugby has become. I feel for Saint Andre as the style of play is alien to him, there's not a lot he can do with a group of players who play foreign Rugby.

Not really into this argument..................but Jeremy Guscott........is that the best you can do?

He should just stick to the Guiness he loves so much and leave punditry to someone who talks sense....( what a triumverate the BBC has Davies/Wood/Guscott)........what about ROG.....mind you depend who he is talking to?!!
