Always thought it was the Boks but according some its not , just wanted to what the general feel out there is , I can safely say that for the Boks it is the All Blacks , we take the greatest pride when we beat them (Lions Series apart)

Apologies for my pathetic spelling , its late here in SA and I had very little sleep this week (TRF) keeping me up until 2am last night lol !!

Japan, the've never forgotten 95

Seriously, from the Kiwi's I know they consider The Boks as their rivals, especially in recent years.

theres not many things out there more satisfying then ******** all over the poms. they always turn up here in nz thinking they have a chance. greatest rivals for the abs are the boks as far as im concerned. lots of history

heres an article by sean fitzpacktrick surrounding this topic

Mark if you dont mind voting in the poll , will make it easier to see the results.

Its just that at the moment I live in NZ and around me a lot of kiwis don't take too kindly to the Wallabies but don't really have a problem with the Springbok's. I am however a fan of all 3 teams, so on the fence, yeah I guess so.

LOL fence sitter !!!

HAHA ... well he's not really sitting on the fence, Sam's correct statistically speaking ... South Africa have best win lose ratio AB's topic have only won 56% of the games against the Boks, but the Wallabies have beaten the AB's more times (they've also played us the most)

This might be a little off topic but IMO, i think the rivalry between countries is diminished a bit, because we play so often ... I know i'm probably a little old school, but I used to enjoy it when the All Blacks had proper tours, and teams used to tour New Zealand ...

... Anyway ... Shaggy's now climbing down from his soapbox ... :) ... I did vote in the poll by the way

Guy WTF are you on about ? I was responding to post by Woodward that said the below. He was implying that the Aussies were dominant over the ABs or rather they had a few good years in a 3-4 years period and its something the Boks never achieved , I replied that in that period the Aussies won 6 out of 5 games against the ABS. Not brain surgery but one can hardly call that a few good years over the ABS now can we ? This is reference to Aussies Vs Abs and that only. Please take some time and read through the post and replies before having a hernia.
I said they had a great era, not just against the All Blacks though I used the wins they had over some great All Black sides as evidence theres also plenty more-see ezequiel's post. Would you not consider beating the All Blacks 6 times in 4 years a very good effort anyway? or 5 times in 3 years if you take out 03 in which they beat us in a semi final but lost the Bledisloe to us, actually wouldn't they have beaten us twice in 98 as well to win the thing. So it seems you've attempted to manipulate the stats a bit. Either way probably the best era by any country since professionalism began, thats why we have current coaches and players claiming to value the Bledisloe over the 3N. Plus we hate each other anyway

also you made this thread wrong, it wasn't claimed by anyone that overall the Australians are bigger rivals just since 96. The results will also be skewed by the Springbok rivalry being strong in the last couple of years

In terms of rugby, South Africa is probably our biggest rival. The event that isolated the most people in New Zealand was indeed a Springbok tour.

That being said, New Zealand's biggest rival in the world is Australia. It's a friendly rivaly, but I couldn't give a stuff if we bet South Africa in cricket, league, olympic gold medals etc, but when we get one over Australia, it's certainly a nice feelling.

The AB's are so intimidated by them they've yet to even play a match against them.

yeah i think us nzers like to see a strong south africa i remember we were a bit worried that the quota stuff was gonna cheapen the contest a little

Missed this.

Completely true.

Rugby, it's South Africa.

Everything else, it's our criminal neighbours! :p

it's the Wallabies. The Springboks are more like, our brothers because of the history and all... but the Wallabies it is because, well, It's always NZ vs AUS, we dislike Aussies in all things we do, from politics right down to sports

I mean, when I toured South Africa there was nothing but love for us, especially from the blacks, they considered us as their team and the South African teams we played were their enemies.
And one night we were walking through Nelson Mandela square and the All Blacks were playing the Springboks and they had a screen in the mall where heaps of South Africans were huddled around the tv watching the game and they were rubbishing the ref for the bad call he made against the All Blacks and they were saying, "That ref is against US"... when I saw that man I got butterflies and all because of the love that they had for us as New Zealanders and that they would pick the All Blacks over their own national team.

So they're more like our brothers[imo] and if you saw Australians watching a game All Blacks vs Wallabies, you'd hear nothing but curses against us, that is why I consider the aussies as our rivals

I can see why ... they only need 12 players :D
They strike fear in the heart, don't they? Imagine facing down the vortex of intimidation that is the Bletchley Ladies 1st XV. I bet the AB's would stop mid-Haka due to the shivering cold that over takes them as they lock eyes with these fiersome women-warriors.
