Did you watch the Reds Crusaders game? Did you watch us put 4 tries on the Crusaders (at home)? The Reds are a lot better this year than their record suggests. And before anyone brings up last weeks Rebels game, do realize that' was played while it was absolutely bucketing down rain. Anyone who says it was slow doesn't realize that it was practically storming.

The Reds would pump those three teams as they are currently playing.

Reds vs Crusaders 20 - 24 (4 tries to 3) and without James O'Connor

If the Reds could get a kicker one day we may even win some games....

We beat the Reds this year at Suncorp 33-22. They Talked about a Reds redemption this year and their project is looking good, I will agree with that. They have always been a good side, especially since that one year where I think they won the comp with Quade? Can't remember that well now. But yea man we managed to beat you convincingly at your home, then smashed the Rebels at their second home(awesome little stadium with grass banks), then it was Covid lockdown. It obviously goes in phases I can agree to that and yes you are right that sometimes we are also dead in the water for a year or so. But I can't agree with your opinion that the Reds are that good now. They are good but not a top 4 or 6 Super rugby team just yet. Maybe next year when their project gains momentum.

You guys also don't have to deal with a player drain as extreme as ours , yet we can still remain relatively consistent even if that consistent means losing to NZ teams (Crusaders) in the playoffs.
Our Youth catchment, Schools and academies are miles ahead of the Aussies when it comes to rugby. So from a performance perspective the Aussies must up their whole system if they dont want to be a heavy weight to Super rugby.


On a last note. I have always feared the Wallabies .Especially when I was still in School. Then it was just as hard to beat the Wallabies as it was to beat the All Blacks. They have weakened for now but I'm sure they will have a good run soon, especially with Rennie. But hearing Aussie media constantly wine and moan about Super rugby and creating bad media coverage about it has me feeling that if you don't like it then GTFO. If you like it then stay and stop bad mouthing. There is clear benefits to the SANZAAR alliance. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

The Aussie media is the worst for fear monging and blaming everything but us. Imagine how much worse it would be if someone like Phil Kearns got the top job.

I can agree with you the Reds are very much a work in progress and if we can keep the playerbase together the next year or two should be great. Especially with our 3 loose forwards looking like they could be Wallabies stalwarts for years to come (McReight, Wright and Wilson) The biggest issue the Reds have going forwards is we have no clear playmaker. Without a specialist 10 (We have one signed we just haven't used him yet Carter Gordon remember that name if he ever gets a run he has the potential to be great) we are kind of just floating with JOC.

The Sharks however seem to constantly float between top 5 and the middle. They don't seem to suffer like the Bulls and the Stormers do. I'm not sure if it's just the development in Durban is better than the other areas or the fact they aren't scared to bench a player who isn't performing and try a rookie. where as the other RSA teams will stick with the brand name regardless of if they're playing like dirt.

The Bulls fall from the grace has been the hardest of all the teams. Look at the Reds score in that 41 - 17 and the Bulls didn't score a single point after the 18 minute mark.


For the record my teams that I go for outside of Australia in the Super Rugby are the Sharks and the Hurricanes (two of my cousins have played for the Hurricanes and the Chiefs in the past few years)

I find it hard to believe that Australian Rugby will survive by itself. It's a fairly weakly followed sport in the grand scheme of things in Australia... They've really only just introduced an ITM Cup like format, I don't know how successful this has been for them since it has been established. But they are losing a lot of talent to NRL, and AFL mostly. Those sports have huge cult-like followings, much like the Premier League Football in the UK, where multiple generations support a certain team. and that is always passed down. I don't feel like it is the same in Australia for Rugby, it feels like the new sport in town trying to get a foothold. Even with New Zealand, typically, you support your region, then you support the Super Rugby team that the region feeds. I say typically, because our region changed hands a few years ago from a Hurricanes region, to a Chiefs region. I am still a Hurricanes supporter through and through. I don't even think that rugby is the number one sport in schools in Australia, but I could be wrong. They will struggle, and their national team will struggle when it comes to playing better talent because they just won't see it regularly enough.

We only recently secured new benefactors, head coach, CEO, and support staff. And with Jake White's appointment there were also changes in assistant coaches. I think the Bulls restructuring was the best move they've made since getting Duane Vermeulen on a permament basis.

NZ after losing the RWC seem to be really smarting and trying to assert their dominance on the world stage by bossing everyone around.

I would prefer to go back to Super 14, but the Travel to South Africa is the biggest hurdle. Maybe if each team bought a concord? hahaha

Well SA Rugby will have a press conference to give more details regarding the future of Super Rugby and SA's involvement. After that article was published, there were several others popping, where SA Rugby has confirmed that they know that it's what NZ wants and that this pandemic has made it increasingly more difficult to travel.

What bothers me though, is how this pandemic is being used an "out" or excuse. Why tarnish a relationship of over 3 decades, because of 1 virus, especially after the consensus found last year to revert back to the previous model of round robin???

Argentina is already out of Super Rugby for all intents and purposes. Almost all of their players have signed with other teams. The Jaguares haven't made it official yet, but I think they'll leave Super Rugby and join SLAR (the new league in South America).

that might be true of full rugby fans...people like us on forums....but there are alot more people that are "casual" and those are the people that will go to a game on a sunny afternoon when they have nothing else to do or watch in a pub over a pint...theyre not the ones that get up at 1am

I've never really seen the SA super teams a yard stick...the springboks defiantly, if anything i think playing the same players so much has diluted the mystique

I really think the only way everyone will be happy is if NZ, AUS and say Japan run their own desperate comps and the top two from each just meet in some sort of playoffs, no cross over games, then it doesn't matter who does what, if either wants to introduce an extra team down the track...doesn't affect the other countries,
