What are you listening to?

The first one wasnt to my liking, but the other three were good, especially 2 and 3. 'Mercy buckets' as they say in France.

Ireland

Pipping 'Into the Mystic' as my favourite van Morrison

Even better than their Father Ted theme tune, a song about European cinema

Now the stinking elephant in the room with Irish music is the successful Republican plot to undermine British culture with a succession of boybands, led by Fenian-in-Chief Louis Walsh. But I'll pick my favourite Girlband instead (well formerly known as Girlband). My vote for best extreme racket of the century (plus I love the take on male conformity and the video is a masterpiece in my book). You have been warned. "Wish I was a wife!"

Wales

There must be something in the water in Wales as most of the stuff I like from there is lighthearted, like this.

This one is from a concept album about the Delorian fellow who made the Back to the Future cars in Belfast at the height of the troubles and married movie star Raquel Welsh (he had a quiet life then!). I saw a good documentary about it a couple of years ago.

And a good Welsh singer pinching from Yoko Ono a bit, but I'll let her off as she is a talent.

Wales got to be the 'Phonics for me.

One of my favourites on their first album.

Nicole Scherzinger Television GIF

Waiting for that to load and then seeing it's not Lostprophets

Italy

Setting aside the great anthem I'm struggling a bit now, so like the Italian union I'll go for someone who is Italian qualified (via passport).

And a couple of opera numbers

Only ever seen Opera sung once in a cruise ship funnily enough on one of the sister ships of the Concordia, but was blown away by the Soprano and the Tenor who sang classic opera songs like O Mio Babbino Caro and Nessun Dorma. Gave a standing ovation. Though not sure I could sit through a whole opera. And of course pay for it, when it was included in the entertainment.

Yes, I know I'd struggle with a full opera. The other key to enjoying opera music is to never look at the mundane lyrics. I think I'd cry if I found out Pavarotti was belting out majestically to his on-stage wife that his character is heading out and will be back a little late for dinner.

That first one has completely won me over after a couple of plays. I'm impressed folk know any modern Italian music beyond the Macarena. It's a complete blindspot for me.
