Western Force v British & Irish Lions

Anyway what do people think of the Cummings McCarthy second row combination? The heaviest one I have seen in a while. Though I dont think there is much chance of either of them playing in the tests.

I like it.

Tbh overall one of the intrigues of this tour IMO is that there aren't that many nailed down test starters so it's all to play for. McCarthy is a lump but a bit prone to brain farts and from what I see his form is less consistent but he is young. Itoje and Berine are both 80 min players and never seem to drop below a 7/10 even on a bad day.

I'd say as I type:

1. TBC-Genge probably slightly edging Porter for the test start.
2. Sheehan
3. TBC (you'd have said Furlong 12-18 months ago but he's arguably 3rd choice on the back of injury/form)
4. Itoje (C)
5. TBC Berine started against Argentina but he's not what you'd call a tight head lock, being 2 odd stone lighter than McCarthy.
6. TBC
7. TBC
8. TBC But probably Connan but the back row balance has a general lack of all round blind sides and 8's.
9. JGP But when's he going to be fit
10. Finn Russell
11. I'd say Lowe
12. TBC
13. TBC I think playing the Scottish or Irish unit makes sense.
14. Freeman
15. TBC. All things being equal you'd expect for Keenan and Kinghorn to battle it out but one is injured still and the other I think asking him to play any sooner than Brumbies fixture on the 9th of July is a risk with the travel.

Lots up for grabs which is a good place to be .

I think McCarthy is almost certainly going to be in the 23 based on this selection. I wonder if Ryan has been brought as a mid-week captain type of player, would do him good imo.

Why based on this selection? Farrell is giving everyone a go in the first few games. It doesn't mean the players in this game will play in the tests.

Ahead of Ryan, can't see him not having 2 purist rows in a 23 so that means Itoje + McCarthy, Cummings or Ryan. I reckon McCarthy is a nose ahead of Cummungs in Farrell's eye.

Good side, to my eyes - more players in there that I recognise than I expected considering the boot off from the Lions
Number of familiar names from the prem too

Richard Nicholas Champion de Crespigny is an insane name, sounds like a character from the Three Musketeers, he shouldn't be on a rugby pitch he should have long curly hair, a wispy moustache, and be sword fighting across Europe

.
Feels weird reading a Lions thread without every other post being "FFS Gats"

Kind of like Christmas with no family fight at the dinner table. Weird.

Not to worry. These pages will be flying if Russell gets intercepted on Saturday.

With him and Lowe both playing I don't think this thread will be short of abuse.

Pollock too. Wales aren't good enough to have someone to hate unfortunately.

Gats is dead and gone, with Tomás O'Leary in the grave.
