Wembley or Twickenham for the World Cup final?

I've been saving up to attend the final and have to say I'd be a bit sour to not get the chance to attend a RWC final at Twickers (between Eng and SA- you've read it here first!).

...and last ! ;)

Isn't Twickenham the only stadium in the world dedicated to Rugby only ? Or at least in Europe...

The Rec at Bath, Franklin Gardens in Northampton, Welford Road in Leicester, The Stoop, Sixways, Kingsholm, Sandy Park...

There a few dedicated Rugby Grounds I know in the UK alone

Not forgetting all the mungoball stadia which also count.

Are you crazy??? Twickenham is the cathedral of rugby! It's a symbol of our sport! Wembley is the symbol of football, we want the symbol of rugby.

Not sure there are any bars at Wembley......

Twickenham is the home of English rugby and any final should be played there. I would go as far as to say all games should be played in England full stop, really dont know why we have to use MS or Murreyfield.

It's a shame that the Welford Road Stadium was not considered for the RWC 2015. Prioritized money over tradition, most of the stadiums that will host English football stadiums are like Old Trafford. And have neglected the English rugby stadiums, I think a shame, but the RFU must respect the English teams. First to tradition, after the money.

The problem therein is only HQ, WR and Kingsholm will have capacity over 20,000, and even then that uses terracing. Welford road is also too close to Coventrys Ricoh arena (which is a 30,000 all-seater) so it's not considered big enough to justify use in the tournament.

We all know who much of a money-making fudge the RWC has become, that was bound to take priority.

I must have misquoted or smt's amiss...I remember hearing that...there's probably a detail or condition missing in my original post, but Twickenham is somehow the only stadium with...smt related to exclusivity of rugby.

Hey Conrad Smith !! You've got a picture of your own self as a signature with your own name written on it there ?! pfff...pffff...how weird is that ?!...:dirol:

You're right but the RFU or IRB should support Leicester Tigers to enlarge Welford road, would be important for rugby tradition. There are also other historic cities such as Bath don't host the RWC 2015 and are places where you can breathe rugby.

It's my opinion, I would like to see more rugby stadiums before football stadiums in the RWC 2015, even if it means less capacity and less gain.

For sure. On the flip side, at least the domestic season won't be disrupted by WC games as most teams (i.e. everyone except Gloucester) will be able to still have their own stadia for matches available. It will help the game as people with the bug for the WC may just go to see the domestic games.

More crowds means a bigger gate, more people regularly showing interest in it (and maybe taking up the game as players). CAn only help build the foundations.

.......or turned Twickers into a block of flats and. with the proceeds, built a new stadium in the Midlands which was easily accessible by rail to everyone and rid themselves of the present situation where most spectators have to cram into a tiny suburban train station built for commuters to get on a makeshift service in order to reach a mainline station to go home and are treated like cattle................

Is it common for European stadia to be in residential areas? This is a dying thing in North America, it's generally only older facilities now eg. Wrigley Field and Fenway Park. My local gridiron team has a stadium in a residential area and it's kind of a novelty. The trend generally now is for downtown stadiums or ones on collegiate/university grounds. There are also some still left built in suburbs outside of cties but these were mainly from the 1960's-1980's when many cities in North America were becoming third world type places.
