Canada will at least go away from this with some confidence! They had Wales on the back foot for a lot of game!

Wales were lucky. If Canada was a 6 Nations, Tri Nations or a few other sides (Argentina, Fiji, Samoa etc) , then they would have lost that.

Damn right! Canada can leave the field with their heads held high, an immense performance from Canada. If they had a higher level of fitness they could have pushed for the full 80 minutes.

How on earth did canada have us on edge for 50 minutes?
They showed no creativity but it worked for them. Wales were a terrible side for most of that game and we didn't deserve to come out of that winning by 20+ points.
One of the worst games i've witnessed from Wales in a long time.
There was one good thing that came from the game however. There was one shining light, one joy that kept me going through the entire game:
WILL GREENWOOD!
The man was an absolute joy to listen to. He showed to much enthusiasm and knowledge towards the game. He talked as if reciting poetry - this man should be on tv more often.

Was he commentating on ITV?! The guy was superb, he really is a superb all round man. I'd probably just buy him a pint if I ever met him.

Wales will have to be better, Fiji and Aussies will be hard.
Will Greenwood is very good, he knows the game very well, but doesn't sound like a know it all, just a bloody decent fella.

anyways the match was very dissapointing!! wales looked a different side when jones and alfie came on, gave them much needed direction!! now what we need here is for them two to start vs australia. shanklin was a beast! cant wait for his battle with mortlock, both similar types of players, gunna be a good battle. but on this performance i can see aus winning by at least 12 points.

Greenwood always seems to look a touch bemused that he's even been invited to pundit or commentate on anything rugby related. Seems like an incredibly humble and modest man.
I listen to the Telegraph rugby club podcast and he always talks from home so we keep hearing his dog barking at the telephone for the whole thirty minutes :lol: so there is always a carry on element with Will Greenwood.

one thign which i think is killing atmospheres in these games are the french insistence to stick a band in the f***ing stadium for everygame... its doing my head in now.

Gotta say, nice to hear Will Greenwood shouting 'Chip him Shane, chip him!'
Anyway, at first, Wales seemed alright, 9 - 0 up, but then Canada scored that push over try, fair enough, with a pack like they've got, they can score tries like that against most teams. Then, Hook lobbs a daft pass when there was a try on, and off the Cannadian goes... not a great moment in Welsh Rugby. After half time, Canada score, again, but Wales knew that they needed tries, and fast, and Alfie Thomas (finally someone listened to me, and stuck him at Full Back!) and Stephen Jones really made a difference. Hook didn't have a good game, and his early mistakes took a lot of confidence out of him. But, afterwards Wales took itto the Canadians, and finally finished off breaks with tries.
Very promising from both teams, for Wales, obviously more in teh second half. More promising that the English against teh US anyway. So at least 1 6 Nations team has done well so far.

Better than hearing the regular droning of "Waaaallleeess...Waaaaallleesss..." sounding like a broken Air Conditioning unit. I like the French bands! They were playing Micheal Jacksons Thriller in the England vs USA game

England sent out a weak team - they did the job they needed to do. End of.
Wales sent out their first squad (barr a couple of boys) and finally brushed aside what could have been an upset with a confortable win in the end.
Italy were shell shocked by ABs by came very much back into the game, played their arses off, gave new zealand a hell of a hard time and scored two very good tries. I haven't seen Wales score against new zealand since 2005...or was it '04? So two tries in a match is very good.

and do you actually realise that a full Canada squad is better than we think it is? They're a lot better than the USA, Japan and Romania (to name a few). And they came out all guns blazing, Wales panicked a bit, but took control of the game.

That was good for Wales. They were always going to come under pressure from a team specialising in set piece, so the half time score wasn't a shock.
But they got to play the way they like it: handling was good and all the runners had a go, with Shanklin looking dangerous (like Mortlock, as the commentator said - ugly *******!). And I guess it was Jones who made the difference, so the wise maestro is back at #10 and Wales have a head on their shoulders. If they can hold Aus for the first half hour next week, we'll have a classic match.
Oh yeah - Jones at #14 is some tackler.

i think the bands are awful i really do, its alright if your at a carnival or a funfair but there getting right on my nerves now!!

Yup, ask any of the boys here - England didn't field their first team.
And i'm not the one underestimating Canada - i'm fully aware of what they are capable of, but we not only panicked, but we showed no class. We couldn't control the game and as far as dangerous attackers go Canada aren't exactly blesssed wtih them, yet they still made more breaks in the first half than we did. Where was Shanklin, Shane etc in the first half for us?
