Vuna named in Tonga squad

Why would Isotolo run after Moa after what he did?Forget it-he was never committed to Tonga, just like a lot of other Tongan players who choose club rugby over country.Committment in a squad is very important.Besides Tonga does not have a problem at half-back.

In reply to previous Posts.Isitolo has made it clear where he stands on this.
Nili Latu won't be in this world cup.We have to move on what happened in Fiji 2009 is in the past and players involved already paying for it. Harsh or Not but from what i read in the Tongan Papers.Nili was in fact asked to be apart of the November 2010 when the Board and Coaches met in Auckland and said he was injuried and out of all the players he was the only one with no medical papers, and meeting up with The fromer Chairperson who is trying to undermine the current board now.Is not gonna help your chances right.SO before we choose the bad guy we need to understand both sides of the story.

Dead right. Its called factionalism-a blight on Tongan rugby.People trying to undermine the current regime. The Tongan Rugby Authority will cease to exist in February 2012.The IRB will be gone and Tongan rugby will go through another period of power struggle. For those who win it maybe a short term victory.I believe the IRB will rid itself of Tonga-then only the players will lose.

Good result for Tonga 45-21 over Fiji. And still without some frontline players.

I heard that guys an actor. Dont know too many rugby players that do acting.

That massive Spanish guy in no country for old men played rugby for Spain. He said he had to retire when his acting career took off because he was getting targeted.

Back on topic as far as i understand it neither Vuna or Timani have actually agreed to play for Tonga. I'd say both of them will knock back the offer and hold out in the hope for a Wallabies jersey one day.

Tonga dont need Vuna-hes a defensive liability.
With the emergance of Iongi, I have to agree. Malupo, Fatafehi or Helu are good enough players to partner on the other side of the field so i dont think hell be missed too much. Destructive Ball runner but horrible in defence. I mentioned on another thread about Seti Kiole...Whatever happened to him? He was on fire for Tonga playing in 2006-2007 Pacific nations cup, was named in the Tonga World cup squad but never played a game. He has not seen since in the Tongan team and i cannot find anywhere online where he has been clubwise the past 2-3 years. Hes still 31 and if he was playing at his best his brute power running would make a great tandem opposite the speed and elusiveness of Iongi.

Another power player would be Joseph Vaka, his last game against the Jr All blacks he was real dangerous with the ball hand.

I dont mind Vuna and Pakalani not playing, but Ireally wish Taniela Moa was given a chance. I am also hoping for Sitaleki Timani to play.

is it confirmed that Cooper Vuna, Afa Pakalani, Sitaleki Timani have all pulled out?

also is Siale Piutau still going to play in the RWC?

Sitaleki Timani has been called up to the Australian squad so looks like so.

does anybody know whether Vuna, Pakalani or Piutau will play then?

would be useful for Tonga to have an extra winger alongside Iongi who looks to have secured a starting spot at the World Cup

Cooper Vuna and Afa Pakalani have been playing club rugby in Sydney (Shute Shield), Afa Pakalani has already stated he feels its too early in his career and He doesnt want to jeopardise his contract with the Waratahs.

Cooper Vuna would be in the same situation. His cross code signing was one of the biggest transfers during the off season id imagine He would not want to jeopardise his chances of playing Super Rugby.

No word on Piutau , He will be playing for Counties Manukau in the ITM Cup. Seeing Sona Taumalolo turn out for Tonga must mean players from New Zealand are free to play for their respective countries. Seeing as Piutau hasnt shown is a strong sign He will not be turning out for Tonga.

Sitaleki still has to officially be named for the Wallabies match day 22 to be ineligible to play for Tonga, He stated again if he is not picked for the RWC he will not stick around. Slim chance ,but heres hoping.

why were they named in the squad in the first place if they're not going to turn up?

please Australia, do not put him in another Radike Samo situation, 4 caps and then gone from internationals, or Laulala 2 caps then gone from reckoning from internationals for good

I know Samo has been recalled but he could of been one of Fiji's best forwards for years by now and played at a World Cup

great news, had a up and down season this year, great potential though.fair few rebels at the w/c,hehe.

Tonga seems to do this every year they name a squad of hopefuls. Tonga named Doug Howlett during the 1998 Pacific Rim Cup, when in fact he wasnt even aware.

This year however I read somewhere that Tongan coach Isitolo Maka talked with players named in the 50 man squad. So they must have shown some interest, as of now though its looking highly unlikely.

Timani-wrong choice bro.Wouldnt get a game for Tonga after Samoa performance.

What will happen to Timani must be a lesson for every Tongan players.

Some never learn.I hope the day comes when the Pacific Islands have a team in Super 15(or 18).Im dreamin of course!

Same could be said for the Manu Samoa team. Alapati Leiua was named in the Samoa World Cup training squad and came out later saying he knew nothing about it. He must be wishing he did after Samoa beating the Wallabies. I wonder how many players will make themselves available for Manu Samoa now. Peter Saili, Chris Lowrey, Filo Paulo, Serge Lilo, Jack Lam, Fa'afili Levave, Mathew Luamanu, Charlie Faumauina.. To be honest I can only see Charlie Faumauina and probably Jack Lam going to further honours. I think the door will be closed and some of these players who were asked to play for Manu will regret it.

Go Manu!!
