US Open Tennis Women's Final (AKA Serena's Temper Tantrum)

Seriously??

The democrats are getting their knickers in a twist about everything now.

So no talking about her privilege about being one of the richest sportswomen in the world and how she gets what she wants wherever she goes? No mention of her being a diva and has a tendency to rant and use her daughter as a defence mechanism?

And what about Osaka? What about the sacrifices her family and she had to make? No, the media won't publish that, She's Japanese, and she and the Umpire are in cahoots against Serena, and it was masterminded by a top White House official...

Serena did this for Ms. Osaka, don't you see?

Serena didn't do anything for Osaka apart from steal the limelight from her win. The link to the article you posted is written by an academic who is trying to conflate the issues of what happened on Saturday with her Feminist and African American agenda. And knows nothing about the sport.

Within the context of the match Serena's rant was unjustified, so it does nothing for black women's right to get angry. By all means stand up to descrimination when justified. But she wasn't, as clearly shown. In fact I would argue the opposite to what she is arguing below.

Williams had liberated herself of constraint. Rather than swallow her frustrations in the face of discrimination, Williams fought back and reminded the world of her greatness. In doing so, she gave her 20-year-old vanquisher, Naomi Osaka, an even bigger victory: the right to be angry and black and a woman — on and off the court. Her rage was for the countless women silenced by sexist discrimination, not a simple pleading for herself.

You give this author too much credit. Clearly she is an angry person who likes to publicly show her anger in various contexts where normal people disapprove. Her advocacy is the fight against human nature to make her own flaws acceptable, or even appealing. A normal society would laugh at such people. In modern day America we hand her entrance to the most elite schools (4 degrees from 3 Ivy League schools, wonder how much she paid?), brand her an elite intellectual, and let her vent in the country's most prestigious newspaper.

Oh right I see you were being flippant posting up the link to that article.

Some hilarious responses on that article in the comments section. ( I say hilarious, but it's actually quite scary how many people (not just in the USA. It's probably more prevalent for even more ridiculous reason in the UK) are dumb/feelentitled/dumb/keyboardwarriors/willingtodoanythingbecauseitstrumpsfault/itsnotfairidontgetparticipationmedalsinreallife (I may have made a few of those words up)
Serena appears to be the poster girl for them.

Would love to see Andreescu come through and announce herself as the next star of women's tennis. Nothing against Serena.

5-5. Let's see what the young pup is made of or the old dog?

Finally gets it done. A new star is born in Women's tennis. To win on her debut at the US Open and first slam final is incredible.

No tantrum this year from Serena.
