URC 2024/25: Round 3

Strong team. Ross Byrne is dusht, hard to imagine he'd be there if Prendo wasn't in SA.

He will be there come Europe. Cullen will back him. For some lads though the writing is on wall.

RG Snyman is huge for ye and will be massive and think himself and McCarthy start the big games if fit. Ryan will be interesting to see. For big games his role for Ireland and Leinster will be impact off the bench.

Some signs of improvement from Scarlets tonight, they played well in parts. But they're their own worst enemy at times too.

Horror start with Ioan Nicolas (why did they keep such a mediocre player, but let Conbeer leave!) handing Conacht a try. Then right at the end, after lots of great defending and forcing themselves into the lead, the replacement hooker blatantly, and unnecessarily, has about 3 goes at the ruck and gives away the losing penalty for hands in the ruck!

Costellow spilling the ball under no pressure afterwards to prevent a last throw of the dice for the Scarlets was just so predictable!

Something needs to change over there! Maybe they just need to grind out a few wins to relieve pressure and build some confidence; but I'm wholly unimpressed with Peel as a head coach. He bums me out every time he speaks, guy never had much charisma! I think he's in over his head tbh.

48-0 at half time for the Lions vs Edinburgh. They're looking really formidable at the start of this season, which is so impressive given the more limited resources they have vs other unions.

Great start from Frawley but Benetton not looking up to much.

Kelleher a bad bad injury to see however.

Benetton floodong passing channels and not engaging Byrne at all.since he's come on. His lack of athleticism just doesn't cut it for a team that wants to play rugby.

Doubt it'll be a conversation much longer because he should be comfortably 3rd choice.

Benetton 0 - 28 Leinster without Ross Byrne

Benetton 5 - 0 Leinster with Ross Byrne

He's a rugby terrorist.

I'm so confused about how Dewi Lake gets away with his throwing motion.

Great BP win here for us. Not over yet but the weather meant it was never a night for rugby. 5 points will do

Hooker may be big issue for ye next week. But from bits I saw RG and Big Joe looked a fearsome 2nd row and genuinely think that will see ye home in Europe

That's exactly the performance we needed after the embarrassment of last week. Played on the point of pride and way more physical.

Made them pay for every yard, disrupted every ruck and twisted the knife whenever we were in The scoring area.

Fair play to anyone who went to watch. I drove through the orange warning in Cork last week and it was enough for me.

Casey MOTM is fair for me even when we've been terrible he's been very good. Beirne as you'd expect added a huge amount. Injury list is getting worrying now.

I'll get those injuries right 😉

Although Pete not looking like he will make it.

Not ideal but there's URC level lads there to pick it up. We need Kelleher ready for the January trip though.

Munster were absolute pains throughout that match, just terrorised Ospreys in every aspect. Almost perfect execution in those conditions. Very disapointed with Ospreys though, they were second best in all aspects, and comortably lost the physical and kicking battle.

Is there much thought between injuries and lads with EI tour hooker may be a sticky spot next week.

Kelleher I think will be good and Dan Sheehan I seen last week is ahead of schedule. I'm sure it will still be managed slow but good to see he going well in rehab.

We had to fire back after last week. But don't be too disheartened. Tonight was a lottery. No reflection on rugby at all

Stormers and Sharks getting wins away despite playing poorly. If we can get points in our last away game it would've been a good tour for us everything considered.

Looking forward to having something closer to a full strength side though we will probably not see Sacha featuring this tournament unless maybe towards the end. Roos long term as well. Though we should see Deon Fourie back this year still. Probably the player we've been missing the most (especially play offs last season).

So for next weekend we are down Kendellen through Irish duty (fair enough) and Jager, O'Mahony, Quinn, Daly, J Wycherley, Abrahams for a certainty with relatively fresh injuries. Ahern, Nankivell, Haley, Burns all maybes. Rory Scannell, Paddy Patterson, Liam Coombes, Diarmuid Kilgallen, Brian Gleeson, Cian Hurley, Edwin Edogbo, Roman Salanoa and Pa Campbell all long term injured.

I think Saturday could be about damage limitation and trying to salvage a point. I think we will hang around and it will be a tight game until the benches roll on, where we will be really weak.
