The Leinster management are optimistic that the squad who featured in the 34-23 Magners League victory over the Cardiff Blues last weekend will be available for the trip to Benetton Treviso this weekend...

Shane Horgan (back), Shane Jennings (foot) and Jonathan Sexton (quad) are all expected to be available for the trip to Italy though a decision on their fitness will be made on Friday lunchtime. Fergus McFadden, a try-scorer against Cardiff, suffered a cut to his head during the game on Saturday but has recovered sufficiently.
In addition, those players who featured in the Leinster ‘A’ game on Sunday will also be in the selection mix.

I suspect Rob Kearney, Gordon D'arcy and Jonny Sexton will make their first appearance of the season this weekend. Eoin Reddan will probably also get his first start. Luke Fitzgerald and Jamie Heaslip may be forceably rested.

Ireland’s Gordon D’Arcy, Rob Kearney and Eoin Reddan start for the province for the first time this season and the trio are named in a backline which also includes Isa Nacewa, who scored 19 points (including a try) in the 34-23 victory over the Cardiff Blues this season. In the pack, Cian Healy comes into the front row after making a second half appearance last weekend to partner John Fogarty and Mike Ross, while Rhys Ruddock forms a back-row partnership with Sean O’Brien and skipper Shane Jennings.
Isaac Boss, Fergus McFadden and Heinke van der Merwe are named amongst the replacements.

I like the look of that team. Kearney, Fitzgerald and Nacwea is probably Leinster's best back three. Eoin O'Malley has looked better than Fergus McFadden this season and gets another chance to impress. Ian Madigan was solid last week and gets another shot with the experienced Gordon D'arcy and Eoin Reddan to guide him through the game. Isaac Boss and Fergus McFadden offer impact off the bench while Dave Kearney is a solid if unspectacular alternative to any of the back three players.

Up front Cian Healy has a chance to lay down a marker, John Fogarty can provide veteran leadership (once he doesn't have a brainfart) and Mike Ross gets to show he's a viable option for Ireland. Nathan Hines and Ed O'Donoghue have been quite thus far this season but with Leo Cullen out for a while, they have another chance to gel as a partnership. Rhys Ruddock gets a chance to show he's Leinster's best option at 6 (in Kevin McLaughlin's absence)after Sean O'Brien and Dominic Ryan had impressive displays. Shane Jennings as captain and openside was a no brainer while Sean O'Brien looks to show his versatility by playing 8. Heinke van der Merwe and Richardt Strauss have been Leinster's best forwards this season so they'll offer plenty off the bench. Add in Simon Shawe's scrummaging prowess (thus far anyway), Mariano Galarza's potential and Stephen Keogh's solidity and Leinster lok quite strong.

Absent are Shane Horgan who's likely being rested, Brian O'Driscoll who doesn't do away ML games, Jonny Sexton who's recovering from a groin tweak and Jamie Heaslip who falls under the IRFU player management scheme. Ben Prescott didn't impress against Munster A and it looks as though he's currently 4th (Stan Wright, Ross and Shawe are all in front of him) in the tighthead prop pecking order. All in all though it's a smart use of resources by Joe Schmidt.

Saracens played Treviso during pre-season, so this is a piece of advice for all Leinster fans. Even though they are new to the Magners League, they did manage to score a try against us (we won 32-12, by the way!) So, be careful not to give away too many tries and Leinster should do OK x

Cheers for the advice. We'll do our best

12-10 to Treviso at half time. Treviso are ferociously contesting every ruck and it's having an adverse affect of Leinster. They're also playing the conditions well by attacking around the fringes and kicking for touch deep in Leinster's 22.

Two penalties and two drop goals for Treviso versus a converted Nacewa try and a penalty for Leinster.

Wow, terrible result for Leinster, well done Treviso though.

does this show how vunerable Leinster and Munster are this year due to the IRFU resting everyone?

A total and utter embarrassment. In a way Joe Schmidt should be delighted with this since he can now see who's completely out of their depth and who's attitude needs to improve drastically. Hines, O'Donoghue, Fogarty, Kearney and D'arcy should be ashamed of their performances. Madigan, O'Malley and Ruddock showed flashes of talent but are nowhere near ready yet. Only the four props (the scrum was excellent again), Fitzgerald and Sean O'Brien played any way competently. Reddan, Jennings, Nacewa and Strauss tried but didn't play well - there's no shame in that.

29-13 to Treviso. Well done :bravo:

No it shows some players had a **** poor attitude and thought they could turn up and win without trying. This Treviso team is limited but it showed last year in dismantling Perpignan that you have to treat them with respect. Leinster didn't and paid the price.

That Leinster team was good enough to win if they played to their potential.

Again, well done to Treviso. Their 15 and 8 were outstanding.

That was bloody awful, I'm going to bed. Sucks.

Screw you Rob Kearney!!

It must suck to support a loosing team, of course as a Connacht fan I wouldn't know. I'm not sure if this has been said before but Fionn Carr for Ireland anyone?

Obviously didn't listen to saracenangel dideeewwww?!
