Im still not totally sold on George Martin. On his day yes, hes a beast...but how often on a consistent basis have we actually seen that, where we've spoken about how he dominated games as we look for a big tighthead lock to do.

Itoje, Martin, Isiekwe, Sodeke, Tizard - 5 English locks - 4 currently around the England set up.
Almost every game I've seen him play, tbh
Feel like the revisionism on Martin is getting out of hand just cause he's been out a while - genuinely one of the best in the world when he's fit

Im not sure i can agree with that. Nothing to do with revisionism. I don't see him as one of the best in the world at the moment. We've seen glimpses of how good he can be in games, but nothing consistent. I genuinely hope a move can fix his problems and get him consistently up his best form and fitness.
But he's going to have some big competition coming through who are both huge and athletic to contend with.

Interesting that Parling only described the deal as “competitive”. Not breaking the bank - and rightly.
Martin can be absolutely stellar and change the whole tone of a pack. But we haven’t seen that consistently enough. There have been some games when he’s been absolutely ‘fine’, but you want more from someone who can be a difference maker.
McCall generally knows what he’s doing but he also won’t hesitate to bench or drop people who aren’t cutting it.
Apparently Tizard is playing well on the back of losing quite a bit of weight. Wonder if we might see Martin do something similar.

He’s on 350k currently
Tigers offered him a bit less and he was annoyed
Tigers offered him then 350k but with clauses like it’s reflected in the total games he plays
Sarries offered more (rumoured around 400k)

I thought he might have ended up at Sale TBH. Seemed a good fit and they're in need.
Sounds like we essentially did what Tigers did (fitness clauses) and when he wasn't keen we pulled out entirely

I’d be amazed if Sarries haven’t done something similar.
When you take into account his England contract and other earnings, £50K pre tax would seem a fairly trivial amount to fall out over with your boyhood club. Wonder if there was more to it?
