Transfers rumours

I don't think that will happen this time as we are in a much better position. This is why the Home-Based rule will not change as no-one has a guaranteed a place in the team, if Farrell left Ford takes over, If Tuilagi left Burrell takes over, Brown goes Foden takes over, It doesn't matter who it is we have a replacement to take them over who is intl' quality.

Well I'm inclined to agree, except that in Farrell's case he has been picked at times over others who were arguably more deserving and his old man is on the coaching staff. I don't buy the idea that Farrell only makes the EPS because his dad is a backs coach BUT he is clearly a favoured player who is seen as a key part of the team. Of anyone currently in the setup he is the only person I can see an exception being made for.

Still, this is all predicated on a very big if.

I'm sure that the RFU/PRL will have informally agreed upon what "exceptional circumstances" are - I do not believe they will be anything long term.

They will be there to allow short term flexibility - for example: if Mike Brown announced that he's going to France with immediate effect then he would still go on tour to NZ.
He would not continue to be picked thereafter. Or Steffon might be picked should 5 of our flankers suddenly break their legs - but he would be released as son as they were fit again.

I remember Haskell playing vs South Africa because he was going to move to England, same with Palmer. But if Brown said right i'm moving to Clermont tomorrow then I wouldn't want him making another England appearance until he was playing in England again.

I'd be very surprised if Farrell left Saracens.
They seem to really look after their players, make it a great place to be, and give them a lot of opportunities for life post-rugby.
I know he's young, so he could go to Toulon for 2 years, and come back and still be in the reckoning for 2019, but I just can't see it happening.

Will put it here, Aaron Flagg is down in Taranaki trying to land a contract with the Taranaki RU. He is a bit too short to play lock but still think he could be a good 6 or 8 for us.

Quick turnaround it seems. Smith has signed for Munster this morning. But it's only on a 1 year deal when our supposedly big target becomes available after RWC

What is the point in signing him for a year? Sure Munster have some good young players we could give experience to, or at least use the current crop in different positions instead of dishing out a good bit of money?

Costing â'¬75k for year. He can play 12/13 or winger. And it's an extra body. So he may be useful for depth and who knows. He's a big lad and while I know he's be ok at best down under but northern hemisphere game may suit him. Trevor Halstead arrived in a similar situation.

Ireland are welcome to all the players on the list apart from Fitzgerald, O'Connor, Christie, and Collins (though I wouldn't consider any of them international quality players). The rest of the players aren't even Super Rugby standard, and many of them barely ITM Cup standard (they would make Michael Bent look pretty good :) ).

Out of curiousity, is one of O'Connor or Christie an openside? #OnThePoach

Both are. Christie has played for NZ 7s side so is 'unpoachable' (at international level). I'm a big fan of both so you can keep your filthy hands off them. I can however offer you superstar Otago prop Tama Tuirirangi ;)

Ah yes, I'm sure I've heard of a family of Tuirirangis from around Clondalkin way, would be perfect save for the sad fact we need an openside to replace Sean Doyle and not a prop. Word is we're looking for a chap from the ITM with a convenient granny, and then I remembered this list and wondered if I could work out who it might be...

2/3 of the way to being Irish, Quinn Roux to Connacht from Leinster.

Otago centre Michael Collins to one of the Irish provinces. I hope it's not Munster after what they did to another Michael Collins.

;) It's between him Mafi and a "unnamed Pacific Islander". But we are in market for a reserve 10 too as J. Holland is more than likely going to be following Simon Mannix

Would be a shame to lose Roux I feel. Certainly has a lot more potential than Denton, but just can't seem to stay fit.

Leinster announce their signings tomorrow. Hopefully we'll nab Collins, I heard decent things about him,

Mils Muliaina signed a one year deal for Connacht: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/27283192

Seriously, where have Connacht got all this money from?!
They've reportedly been given a budget increase by the IRFU. They're also dumping a lot of salary through the departing Eoin Griffin, Gavin Duffy, Dan Parks, Brett Wilkinson, Frank Murphy, Paul O'Donohue and Kyle Tonetti (all of those names have at least 5 years as a pro and probable decent-large sized salaries). Would Bundee Aki, Tom McCartney and Mils Muliaina cost a great deal more than the 7 departees I've named? I'm not sure. I'm guessing Aki's contract is on the level of, say, Murphy, O'Donohoe and Tonetti. McCartney probably cost around what Wilkinson did. Muliaina's salary level would be around that of Dan Parks and Gavin Duffy combined maybe.

Post of the year. Close the forum now. Hell, might as well shut the whole internet down. Never has a one word post conveyed so much insight, clarity, relevance and blinding intellect.
