Must agree with most of what you say but this is knock out rugby you win, you go forward to the final, you lose its holidays and another year to wait. The only thing i can say in Racings defence is if they were to get 3/4 penalty lead in the first 20 mins Toulon are not good coming from behind, but other than that i can see only Toulon but 80mins of knockout rugby and the form goes out of the window, its all about who wants it the most. head says Toulon heart wants Racing of course if we win ours that is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but the training this week is excellent and we are ready!!!!! everybody leaves this afternoon for Lille...............
This is going to be a very hard couple of days waiting for 16.30 Sat afternoon.

well in a more general way, I don't see how Racing could beat Toulon this weekend...they're good, and they can sneak up on you and grind one out and survive til the whistle blows, but against Toulon, as I eluded to before they're up against a real penalty kicker and natural 10, the most powerful and committed club side in Europe (the world ?) at the breakdown, and a backline that does have the accuracy to finish off or even create from scratch 5point scores. The RCT scrum isn't the Toulouse one, and they sure in hell ain't getting an edge there. This isn't a lightheaded, confused Toulouse side or a choking Clermont. It's the RCT.
There won't be any good surprises for the Racingmen and if they are to advance, they'll have to *win* this match, as opposed to having their opponents lose it. And I resume my deep pondering: how the hell are Racing Metro going to do that ?

Have you ever grabbed a man from behind with your arms around his neck (nevermind the intentions)? It can even be a man stronger than you (better squad and/or game plan/execution), he can wriggle and squirm all he likes (play a lot of rugby) but if you can hold on long enough he'll start to panic, he'll become frantic and won't make good decisions which you can use against him and victory/his anus is yours.. that is what could happen here. I agree RM can;t beat RCT by actually 'playing rugby' as such but that said you don't have to play rugby to win a game of rugby. I'm not saying this will happen but it certainly could.

Clearly you have never been in a good choke hold.

Even if you managed to grab your assailant's jewels it would not deter a committed man. That is it is a question of commitment and not strength per se; you could- assuming you are committed enough- continue to choke the opponents even if he managed to grab hold of your balls (he would not be able to exert full force though considering his arm would necessarily be in an awkward position to grab your testicles behind him).

Now if it is a question of a great difference in strength then it is another matter. For instance a grown man should be able to get out of a choke hold of a woman or boy by strength alone. But even a trained man with a cool head would find it difficult to escape a determined choker of near enough strength.

I can't see Racing beating Toulon. They're a bit too one dimensional they lack some serious back play. Toulon have an awesome backline and incredible finishers on the wing with Habana Mitchell & Co. They mix it very well with their power game in the forwards and a creative backline. They have added that to their game this season Toulon. Of course you can never rule out a ref who is having too much weight on the game, a yellow or red at a crucial moment when the game is in the balance, that could tip it in favour of Racing. But i think Toulon will win it. It's going to be some battle in upfront!!

True RM have not shown enough back play as such to warranr much of a threat. But this is a knock-out match and the ref will be under pressure as much as the players which tends to mean either he does not blow certain things which allows the defending team to effectively kill play or the other way is too 'over-ref' the game and being very technical which means a very stop-start game which also kills back play. Either way the team with the better kicking game gets favored. Between Sexton at goal and Hernandez (fickle as he has been in play) in in-field kicking that is not a bad combo for a play-off match.

I must say as aroused as I was reading this, I had a really hard...errr, difficult time understanding where you were going with it. And as much as I appreciate the metaphorical direction you've borrowed, I must disagree. There's no way to beat Toulon but beating them confrontationally. You must beat em up or at very least resist up front and achieve a semblance of parity, likely you have to score tries or a bunch of drop goals on them, and you need some form of ascendency either at the breakdown or scrum during your best stretches at least...I don't believe Racing has the resources for that.

Castres have shown they will awaken come playoff time, they're made for the big time. They showed it in the Volcano itself this year, beat Clermont also last year amongst others...I don't think they're a good example to back up Racing's chances, although yes of course, technically "anything can happen".

Haven't seen the XV's yet, but I'd say Toulon by 10.
