The worst ref performance i've ever seen!!

I'll admit to

a) Being in the wrong position to get a good eye on the reffing decisions

b) Slightly perplexed (but very pleased) about the raft of penalties given against the Scarlets at their end of the park (not that I had a clue what for mind) in light of the seeming free for all at most Ulster defensivr rucks in the last quarter of the game

But, with the exception of the TMO decision, I can't see how the Scarlets can't blame the reffing more than themselves. There were in Ulster's 22 a lot and I never really felt bothered by it. They reminded me of Ulster last season, more dangerous from the halfway line than 5m out. A better team would have taken some of those opportunities and none of it would have sodding mattered.

You kinda answered you own question there. The Scarlets did scupper a few opportunities, but because Ulster were allowed to get away with practically anything ruck time, especially immediately after the Scarlets had made a clear break, then they couldn't maintain pressure to really stretch the Ulster defense. Even when the Scarlets retained the ball, it was usually slowed down illegally or the scrum half was being harrassed by offside defenders etc.

Ah well, I don't think the Scarlets would have realistically made the playoffs, even if they'd won. The Blues are in a better position, but the result has resulted in Ulster being in a much better position than they should have been, so I can see the Blues being pretty ****** off about the result aswell, even though it took the Scarlets out of the race.

There wasn't really a question there, and I stand by the fact Scarlets had plenty of opportunities and ball. The simple truth is Ulster's defence were up to the task but a better team would have made more of it. I confidently expect Northampton to do so should we be so **** poor in our up front tackling. Ulster should have lost, but thats true of so many of our performances recently that I don't really care.

"The Scarlets are submitting a formal report to the Magners League following the performance of referee Graham Knox during their defeat at Ulster." >>>http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/12989898.stm

I'm not sure what difference it will make cos i'm pretty sure that ref won't be involved in another league game again, although I would like to have a look at the highlight reel they submitted to the Magner's League.
