Seedings are done according to final standings of last years Super Rugby Log.
1. Stormers
2. Lions
3 Bulls
4. Sharks
5. Cheetahs
Africa 1

Africa 1 plays each team in their respective group twice and each team in Africa 2 once.
Africa 1 plays all Ozzie teams once.
Africa 2 plays each team in their group twice and each team in Africa 1 once.
Africa 2 plays all NZ teams once.
This is reversed in 2017.
Stormers, Bulls and Cheetahs have tougher derbies but easier Australasian fixtures.
Lions & Sharks have easier derbies as the Kings are weak but a tougher Australasian fixture list.
Having said that the Brumbies thumped the Hurricanes and reached 50 points.
Rebels beat the Waratahs. (both Australian but shows good competition)
Reds beat the Highlanders.
Force almost beat the Crusaders.
So, I would hardly sat that the Ozzie conference is easier for Stormers.

They don't play any New Zealand teams and get their 3 toughest fixtures at home (Brumbies, Tahs and the Sharks).
