Good news for Sharkie fans - http://www.supersport.com/rugby/super-rugby/news/110203/Hargreaves_may_be_ready_for_opener

Lock Allistair Hargreaves may be ready to take his place in the Sharks team for the Super Rugby opener against the Cheetahs in Durban on 19 February.
There were fears that Hargreaves might be out for a lengthy period after he injured his back in the defeat to the Lions in the Neo Africa Tri-Series at Newlands on Tuesday night. The Springbok spent the night in a Cape Town hospital and Sharks management feared the worst as specialists tried to source the problem.
However, late on Tuesday night the scans were returned with the good news that there had been no structural damage to Hargreaves' spine and he will now be ruled out of rugby for just a couple of weeks. There is a chance he will be ready for the tournament kick-off.
That is good news for the Sharks as Ross Skeate, the man who would stand in for Hargreaves if he was absent, has been ruled out of the game. The former Stormers second row forward fractured a finger against the Lions but should be ready to play in the second round of the competition.
That does still leave the Sharks in a bit of a pickle in terms of who plays second row in Saturday's final Neo Africa match against the Stormers. The team will be announced later on Thursday afternoon.

Was very good news and I breathed a sigh of relief, would be far too much to expect Mostert to jump into the fray and perform admirably

Solid Sharks team named 4 Stormers...Check Sharksworld.co.za for all the details...

Should say on here as others might not waste their time on the Stormers thread ;)

Game is being shown live on Supersport 202 tomorrow, with a match build-up, game is at 17:00 GMT +2

SuperSport..... :'(

I can't wait to go back to SA and have DSTV again...

Seriously, which t!t decided that both sides play in their white kits

I would hate to be the ref

Good game so far, Sharks full of running and leading 10-3
Been a couple of front row injuries, one away from uncontested scrums

Edit: To add to the front row injuried, Sharks players are trying to kill themselves and each other
Beast lifting Anton Bresler to catch a ball in open play, Bresler misjudged iit, leaned back to catch it, and had his head and neck exposed to a potential break because he started falling back
Luckily Beast (and Bresler's shorts) was strong enough to hold him in mid air and get him down safely

HT 3-10
Lambie and Aswegan missed a couple of easy pens

Thanks for the update, whats the latest score?

Stormers score 2 tries in the last 10 min to come from behind for a 17-16 victory. I'll take the win but the Sharks were the better team throughout the match and showed much more willingness to compete. I would call them the most physically imposing team from SA ATM.

Very ugly from the Stormers. Hope Jacque Fourie gives us a little more penetration at the back. Some silly errors and bad discipline. Januarie was too slow to give us anything to work with. Unforced mistakes. No rythm on attack whatsoever. Lots to improve on; one wouldn't say we looked ready for a difficult S15 season. With home ground advantage we shouldn't have been behind on the scoreboard in the fist place.

Defense was the only positive with us only conceding 1 try in 2 matches and that grubber was a difficult one and good linking between Bosman and Mvovo. I hope the sluggishness on attack is due to it being warm-up games and the team not wantig to push too hard if that is at all likely.

Sharks can take a lot of positives from the game but must be concerned that they are 2-0 down in 2 matches played. It doesn't count towards anything, true but getting into the habbit of closing out tight games is important.

You can't possibly expect a team to close out a game comfortably when 10+ changes are made

Sharks played a very good game, passed well, but I am a little dissapointed that Lambie has not improved his kicking by the required amount

JLP looked very good when he came on as well

Players from the sharks that i think will make it big in their rugby careers or to watch out for are:-

1.Wilhem Alberts
2.Jean Deysel
3.Wihan(dont know how to spell his name) Herbst
4.Steven Sykes(I think he is the answer at no.4 for springboks when bakkies retires though they seem to ignore him)
5.Allistar Hagreaves
6.Lwazi Mvovo
7.Pat Lambie(obviously)
8.Craig Burden
9.And than there is the Sharks XV fullback with like really black hair dont know his name but that player is very good

Sharks are the future now, no more Bulls!!

Alberts - Defnitately
Deysel - Baring injuries, yes
Herbst - give it time, far to soon to tell
Sykes - nope, he is way down the line , part from Bakkies the Bulls have two other locks that is better than him
Hargreaves - It seems only Pieter de Villiers rate him, I don't but that is my opinion only
Lambie - for sure
Burden - pitty he is number 3 at the Sharks when it comes to hooker - he should move
Black haired dude - lol, really not sure man but he could get a contarct from a sjampoo company perhaps ;)

Ones you missed out on:

Lwazi Mvovo - Looks stronger and faster every time he plays
Meyer Bosman - can come to his right at the Sharks
Charl McLeod - good future ahead fo him

Louis Ludik at 15 is a very good prospect if he manages to stay injury free for more than 3 months.

Pretty much agree with the rest of your comments. The jury is still out on Bosman IMO but maybe at the Sharks.. certainly has shown glimpses of brilliance here and there.

Players from the sharks that i think will make it big in their rugby careers or to watch out for are:-

1. Willem Alberts
YES
2. Jean Deysel
If he can play for a whole year without injuries, he is definitely a potential Springbok
3. Wiehahn Herbst
Still very young, anything can happen in his career and he has massive competition from other props his age
4. Steven Sykes
Flip van der Merwe, De Kock Steenkamp and Danie Rossouw are better options next to Andries Bekker. Also, Sykes is already 26.
5. Alistair Hagreaves
Good prospect for the future and he replaced Johann Müller quite good after his move to Ulster. Turning 25 in 2 months and has been called up several times last year with the Bok-squad.
6. Lwazi Mvovo
Mvovo was one of the revelations of 2010 and had a good tour in november scoring a try against England after having an amazing Currie Cup season
7. Pat Lambie
Maybe people should be a bit more careful predicting an obvious bright future for Lambie. He is good, only 20 but there's still a long way to go. At fly-half he has decent competition in Elton Jantjies so he might be shifted around the back-line which can result in becoming the next Ruan Pienaar in stead of the World Class fly-half people make him out to be
8. Craig Burden
He had a nice season in the Currie Cup scoring tries even. For a hooker he is very fast and has a lot of running in him. He is however, awful with line-outs which resulted in several turn-overs even against the smaller teams. As a hooker he won't be in the Bok squad soon having to compete with so many others but who knows what happens.
9. Louis Ludik
Same story as Deysel. Definite Springbok, if he manages to stay injury-free. In the Bok-squad we have to watch Zane Kirchner ping-pong the ball straight back every time while Ludik is more the running type like Ben Foden or Muliaina.

Sharks are the future now, no more Bulls!!

When you say "No more Bulls" you probably mean no more Matfield and du Preez after the World Cup. That is true but they still have some amazing talent in that squad with Steenkamp, Rossouw, van der Merwe and Spies as definite Boks. Also I never understood why Ralepelle is in the Bok squad when he is only second choice at the Bulls after Gary Botha. Why not call up Gary Botha in stead then? O well. On top of that they have some amazing talent with van den Heever, Hougaard and some recent called-up players like Wynand Olivier and Dewald Potgieter.

Some other Sharks I think will still have big careers are Keegan Daniel and Ryan Kankowski which I think you forgot to mention ;)

Not a good preparation for the Sharks.

Sharks dominated the whole game, we just missed point scoring opportunities...Mcloed lost ball over the line, lambie missed 2 easy kicks and Jacobs knock on with the open line in front of him. We also had guys going off and then coming on...and then going off again...lots of stiches had to be used during the game...
Read the articles in the press...Shoddy Stormers steal it at the death...Stormers won, but are the Losers...etc. We lost on the scoreboard, but we won everything else and that is what is important in preseason. Physically we are in great shape, we just need to be a bit more clinical, which will come, still time to get the rust off.

Deysel, if he stays injury free, will definately have a solid chance at the Boks...best at the "Bounce" or "The bus in full" in world rugby in my opinion. Mcloed also has a lot to offer...don't be surprised to see him take over from Du Preez when Du preez retires. Mostert also has the potential to be a bok lock...can cover 4 and 5 and at 124kg and 2m tall, he is a great asset in the scrum and clearing out at the breakdown. Hoffman/JLP/Bosman will also improve their game a lot with The Sharks, they are all great talents and now have a better platform to push for higher honours eg.Green and Gold. Also keep an eye out for Jacques Engelbrecht over the next 2 years, very similar to Alberts and Deysel. Great to see all the talent the guys in Durban have secured for the years to come...the future is even brighter in Sharks country!

Also expect young Daniel Adonga to make a huge impact over the next 2 years as he develops into the class that we know he can achieve.

Yes, preseason games count for little and I can't wait for the real action to start. You'd be making a mistake though to write off the Stormers and Bulls. Remember that the Stormers also played without their entire 1st choice backrow, van Zyl, Duvenhage and Grant along with JdV and Jacque Fourie (with no real captain with Bekker being the most senior and only captain by default). That's 8 of the starting XV that either didn't play or only played 10minutes (Vermeulen, Duvenhage). The SA conference is going to be helluva tough with 3 teams able to compete for the ***le and the Lions and Cheetahs won't just roll over and die either.
