The Race for higher World Cup seedings

I hope Wales get Nz, Australia, and South Africa in the World cup. Let's do it the easy way. (I know it can't happen due to tournament format)

No worries dude, I should have expected that those unfamiliar with the Euro system (as I myself am) and wouldn't pick up on it.

Otherwise I can see how I might have come across as a male appendage

Still I should have held my cool, even if I knew the Euro system it might have floated right over my head.

960 is a bit to much. Anyhow just to get things back on track here are my bands.

1 New Zealand
2 Australia
3 France
4 Wales
-----------------
5 South Africa
6 Argentina
7 Ireland
8 England
----------------
9 Italy
10 Scotland
11 Samoa
15 Tonga *

* Canada, Georgia and Japan to be ranked above Tonga. This would mean have the top three from each Pool may well need to be replaced by having the top twelve in the rankings qualify. Tonga, last time around, qualified the same way and then got badly beaten and were ranked 13th with Samoa ahead who had not qualified automatically. See here. At the same tiem Namibia were ranked at 25th behind two sdies from South America and Asia and 8 full points behind Russia.

If the Rankings are to be used to seed teams then he IRB would be better off to have he top twenty teams qualify and this would be done 12 months before the World Cup. i.e. September 2014.

If, however, the system of regional qualification is to continue then Africa needs to be treated the same as South America. No better, no worse. It is a major shame for the World Cup that Namibia gets there without defeating any tier one or tier two side, or any side that has ever won a World Cup match. This needs to be corrected. Africa 1 vs South America 1 vs Asia 2 vs Europe 3 needs to be a global reperchage play-off. Oceania 2 (maybe Papua New Guinea) could well be included too. Investing money in this is smart and rewarding.

The Date for the World Cup draw has been set for December 3rd and their is a slight difference in the bottom two bands this time out. Here are the bands.

Band 1 - The four highest ranked directly qualified teams*
Band 2 - The next four highest ranked directly qualified teams*
Band 3 - The final four directly qualified teams*
Band 4 - Oceania 1(Almost certainly Fiji), Europe 1 (strong chance Georgia), Asia 1(Almost certainly Japan), Americas 1(Canada or lesser chance U.S.A.)
Band 5 - Africa 1, Europe 2, Americas 2(Probably States but possibly Canada), Repechage winner

*The directly qualified teams are the teams that finished in the top three of each RWC 2011 pool.

The European spots, African spot and Repechage spots are a little more wide open than the America's, Oceania and Asian qualifiers with a number of teams as possibilities.

How can Wales be in Band 1? They lost the third play off game and last time I heard that the winner of that game get a better draw. Also Wales have not beaten a Southern Hemisphere nation yet in how long time?

Because they are some men.

LN7 has some competition for the Dubya now.

Because George North said so, Cave. You just don't argue with George North.

They aren't, at the moment.
Band 1: All Blacks, Wallabies, Springboks, Glorious Motherland
Band 2: Wales, France, Argentina, Ireland
Band 3: Tonga, Samoa, Italy, Scotland

Going off of the rules that Little Guy mentioned, anyhow.

Sorry I should have quoted Mehbor as it was in reply to his post. Other thing is who thinks its a good idea introducing a plate competition in the WC?

Am I the only one who doesnt really get how the rankings work.. England being 4th and Wales 5th despite Wales getting further in the WC, Beating them away in the 6N (not done too often lets face it) and winning the grandslam.

England beat higher-rated France in Paris. Crazy, but it all depends on who plays who first.
