The Pumas in ther next 4 nations...

Yo te daré te daré una cosa, yo te daré una cosa que empieza con P!! PUMAS!!!

Whilst Argentina will undoubtedly improve as a result of their inclusion in the tri-nations (its going to take a while before i get used to calling it the rugby championship). I think it will be a while before they get a win (as in several years). Unless of course Robbie Deans decides to play a team full of debutantes lead by Mr "ulsess-and-boring" (Matt Giteau) like he did against Samoa.

Argentina already beat Australia on 4 different occasions.

It's almost certain that the Tri-Nations will use this as an opportunity to test uncapped players, but no one underestimates Argentina nearly as badly as Australia did this summer.

They came 3rd in the RWC even if it was back in 2007, Robbie Deans may have underestimated Samoa but no one thinks of them as pushovers (anyone who saw them against the All Blacks will know they're a solid side even if they lack the edge that comes with regular international fixtures)

Where did I or anyone say that Argentina had never beaten Australia?

I'm assuming the implication in Nielsh's point was that it won't take Argentina several years to get a win in the Rugby Championship since they have shown they can already compete to a degree with the other sides.

you know what they say about assumption little guy. even if your "assumption" is correct, it is still irrelevant. argentina have not beaten australia since 1997 and have never beaten the springboks or all blacks.
following your/nielsch's logic the usa should start favorites when rugby is reintroduced at the olympics in rio in 2016 because they won the last rugby gold medal in 1924.
a 15 year old rugby result is as irrelevant as a 88 year old result because none of the players, management or coaching staff that were involved in those results are involved with the respective teams now.

1. Quite hard to win without chances of playing. Australia have been to Argentina once since 1997 and won in 2002. Aside from that match there has only been one more recent game.. in RWC 2003.

2. Exactly right and considering how many of the Pumas players are doing well this season in Europe there is plenty of reason for optimism. Giteau can´t get any game time for Toulon while Contepomi is on song at Stade Français, Hernández is recovering, Bosch is helping turn things about for Biarritz and Mieres is a revelation at Exeter. This is highly intetresting considering Argentina is thought of as only being strong in the forwards. Lots of backs are reciving plenty of good press from L´Equipe. 2012 is indeed different to 1997. be warned :)

I think your being a bit over the top regarding the difffering opinions that Argentina might win a match at home vs. Oz or SA. Argentina has consistently performed well against other Tier One nations for a period of nearly two decades now and have loads of talent in the Top 14 as Melhor pointed out. As well playing in Buenos Aires and Rosario will be no easy task the home fans will be passionate.

About the Olympics Rugby is being reintroduced as a 7's sport in the 2016 Olympics in 1924 it was 15's and the funny thing is the United States by that point may actually HAVE a legit shot at winning gold in the 7's game since that is where American rugby is pushing and neglecting their 15's side. While I agree that 15 year old results have virtually no relevance, warping that into me and Nielsch considering results from 1924 is absurd.

As i thought the 4 nations is going to cause a lot of problems for clubs and players. Club sides are not going to want to keep Argentinian internationals who are going to be away unless they are world class.
Unless the Super 15 franchises let in more foreign players or they create an Argentinian franchise (which I think is a stupid idea) these lads are going to unempolyed unless they retire early from international rugby. I fear that we will see more players released from their contracts in the future.

Racing Métro are being said to be offering Hernández a lucrative 3 year deal to stick around.

Interesting since he´s been injured badly rather than playing good rugby.

Oh my god:

9. Weepu
10. Hernandez
12. Nonu
13. Ranger

That's absolutely terrifying

It goes further than that

11 Ranger
13 Stanley (in many ways better than Ranger at 13)
14 Wulf
15 Toeava

And then there is the raft of test forwards (Mealamu, Woodcock, Kaino, Williams, Borric) plus Mathewson on the bench LOL.

Anyway, back on topic, the only workable solution I can think of is to get more Argentine players (probably the up-and-commers rather than the guys who are allready entrenched in Europe) into S15 teams with the idea of looking to get at least two fully pro Argie teams in the competition at some stage. I don't know enough about Argentina to speculate as to where these teams might be based.

The result would force the S15 tournament to change to either 1) scrapping the conferences and having each team play one game against the other, 2) setting up pools with seeded random draws and home-and-away matches in the pool with extended play-offs or 3) have NZ and Aus play a home-and-away conference and SA and Arg in another and then top teams meet in the play-offs.
