Recent form, yes but it'll be irrelevent when we lose to Man Utd because we won't qualify for Europe, still 6 points off 6th place and it'll probably be 8 when Liverpool win today. UEFA Cup is probably our best bet of qualifying for Europe.

Man City were robbed a point! Hope Atuba...Atooba........however you spell his name, gets cited. It's amazing how he can get away with elbowing someone in the faces, with them requiring eight stitches, and not get seen by anyone.

LMFAO!!!

Newcastle's unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt, as Aston Villa claimed a 3-0 win on Tyneside.

A well-taken goal from Juan Pablo Angel and two penalties from Gareth Barry clinched the three points - but the result will pale into insignificance compared to the shocking scenes which tarnished the end of the game.

Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer were shown red cards for fighting amongst themselves - as Newcastle lost all self-control as their unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt.

Villa boss David O'Leary has been boosted by the news that he will have money to spend in the summer and it may have acted as a spur to his side, as they took an early lead on eight minutes - but the goal owed much to the shoddy defending of Newcastle.

Steven Davis' cross can best be described as hopeful, but it caused panic in the Newcastle box and Angel lashed his shot past Shay Given after Jermaine Jenas made a real horlicks of his attempted clearance.

Newcastle have found their stride in the last six weeks and they responded to the setback by creating a string of chances.

Jenas attempted to atone by clipping a lofted ball to Alan Shearer, but the Magpies talisman failed to test Thomas Sorensen with his header.

Sorensen did earn a percentage of his fee on 12 minutes when he produced a fine low shot from Bowyer who had combined well with the Laurent Robert.

Newcastle poured forward in waves, with Dyer seeing a low shot well saved and Jenas wasting two fine openings.

Dyer had been asked to play in a support-striker role and he took to the task with relish and he came close to levelling the scores on 20 minutes, but his acrobatic volley flew just wide.

Bowyer was active at both ends of the pitch, as only his alert tracking back prevented Gareth Barry from doubling Villa's advantage after a quicksilver break from the Midlanders.

Barry has one of the finest left foots in The Premiership, but he came within a whisker of netting with his 'swinger' as his low shot from the edge of box hit a post before bouncing to safety, while at the other end the wasteful Jenas was at it again seconds before the break as he slashed his shot wide after being teed-up by Dyer.

Newcastle came out in positive fashion after the break and the vast majority of St James' Park were pleading for a penalty moments after the restart, but Barry Knight failed to see what appeared to be a clear handball from J'Lloyd Samuel which prevented Shearer's header from finding its target - an unmarked Bowyer.

Angel had a chance to put the game beyond Newcastle on 50 minutes but, after eluding Jean-Alain Boumsong with ease, he dragged his shot disappointingly wide of goal.

A combination of Sorensen and the crossbar prevented Bowyer from finding a leveller and Newcastle paid for their failure to find the target as a shocking blunder from Nicky Butt allowed Darius Vassell to stride in on goal and he round Given before seeing his shot blocked by the hand of substitute Steven Taylor.

Knight had no hesitation in dismissing Taylor and Barry stepped up to rifle the spot kick beyond the Irish keeper to bring Newcastle's unbeaten run to a halt.

Referee Knight was not done and he awarded Villa a second penalty after Stephen Carr and Vassell tangled on the edge of the box, with the result being the same - Barry lashing his effort into the top corner.

Villa took a welcome three points back to the Midlands, but Newcastle ended the game with eight men after Dyer and Bowyer started fighting in the Villa half.

The pair squared up and traded blows, which left Knight with no option other than to send the pair from the field.

Newcastle had looked so good before the international break, but their season is in serious danger of imploding - especially as two of their better players on the day were sent off for fighting with each other.

He's only been fined 6 weeks wages and won't be sold according to the chairman, Dyer seems to have got off scot free apart from the 3 match ban, pillock.

Apart from being shite, Dyer was in innocent party in all fairness to the weasel.

Well I think he did a fair share of **** stirring but if Newcastle were to fine him then they wouldn't have a leg to stand on in their appeal.

Saturday's results

Blackburn 3 - 0 Southampton
Bolton 3 - 1 Fulham
Chelsea 1 - 1 Birmingham
Man City 1 - 0 Liverpool
Middlesbrough 0 - 1 Arsenal
Norwich 2 - 0 Man Utd
Portsmouth 4 - 2 Charlton

Not surprising to see Portsmouth and Man City picking up wins with the first home games for their managers, strange to see a full house at Man City. Man Utd dug the final nail in their championship coffin with defeat at Norwich, Chelsea only need 8 points for the ***le although the only thing Arsenal and Man Utd will be pushing for is that automatic champions league spot.

Man City 1 - 0 Liverpool[/b]

Great result against Liverpool! Quality strike from Musampa, and brilliant to see Stuart Pearce so excited that he nearly ran off at the end of the game without shaking any hands

Did publically apologise for it afterwards though.

Another poor weekend for Liverpool's quest for the Champions league qualifiers, Everton taking the advantage back in the race for fourth spot today with a 4-0 win at home to Palace.

Not exactly confidence building stuff from Newcastle facing into the biggest week of the season with the away leg in Lisbon and the semi-final in Cardiff losing at Spurs today.

No la Liga thread, but Real just beat Barca 4-2 with Beckham believe it or not being the best player on the pitch, in doing so setting up Owen for a pretty decent goal. Hate both teams, but today I was glad to see Eto'o, Ronaldinho and Riikjard nicely beaten again.

*bangs head against the table*

ONE MORE MINUTE and it would have all been in our hands again, now we need Everton to drop points in two games and it's infuriating!

That's the power of the Sky Blues

Gerrard injured and won't play in Turin. Not a great weekend for the Red side of Liverpool.

and another one as well, Liverpool had chance after chance to put away Spurs and couldn't take them, missing a penalty, Finnan had a great chance, but it was from a tricky angle and Morientes missing a sitter at the end.

Bolton missed out on the chance to go fourth tonight after failing to beat Southampton at the Reebok tonight. Boro and Fulham drew 1-1 at the Riverside.

Chelsea pretty much have the league done and dusted now after not losing to Arsenal. Man Utd gave Everton a great boost for their champions league qualifier spot wiht a 1-0 victory at Goodison plus gave Newcastle a bit of hope with the sendings off of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes meaning they'll miss Sunday's match, not that that should make much of a difference from a team that can't beat Norwich. Liverpool still kept their champions league qualifer spot alive with a 2-1 win at Portsmouth.

Results tonight

Everton 1-0 Man Utd
Norwich 2-1 Newcastle
Portsmouth 1-2 Liverpool
