The Lions squad for 2021 prediction

100% agree about Henderson. I like Gray but that's a big mistake, if true. Simmonds is another one but I honestly think Care is bonkers. The centers is kind of a "who else have we got" scenario. If you swapped out Gray for Henderson, Simmonds for Stander and Care for either Price or Gareth Davies and I'd be reasonably happy.

It's probably fake anyway. The Simmonds stuff I'm kind of expecting now, though. No smoke without fire.
It is fake I'd say, unless one of the three coaches blurbed it up. Even the players dont know yet

No South African has played test rugby in almost 2yrs

That's not a reason to pick a player who hasn't played international rugby for even longer than 2 years. If anything f it's reason to avoid him like the plague. If he goes over Price (or any other SH playing regular international rugby recently) it's a joke, imo, and he's probably only going as a wind up to Eddie Jones much like Simmonds.

Even though Stander would've been in all day for me I kinda feel for B.Vunipola. Don't think he was as bad as some made out and think he could've been useful.

Why is Stander's name popping up??

He retired from all professional rugby already, so he's not available for selection...

Not until the end of the season (i.e. after the Lions tour)

He's still contracted with Munster until the end of June (per his retirement message)

Probably because he is available for selection. His retirement statement said he'd be available for all commitments until the end of the season which includes the Lions or any Ireland summer fixtures. He's playing in the Rainbow cup for Munster at the moment.

It's utterly pathetic if players announce retirement but they haven't really retired and want to come back for a tour.
I mean his retirement statement specifically says he's retiring at the end of the season
He started Munster's last game, it's not like he's on a beach somewhere

I don't think it's that simple.

As I said before re. Sexton, it's not a question of ability, more a question of whether he'll actually be able to play.

Concussion issues aren't like regular, more manageable injuries. In small squad, having a 10 with a high risk of a short notice withdrawal at any point is difficult to accommodate.
I don't really agree considering the circumstances but I'll come back to you after if it's confirmed.

Plus realistically, i'm sure there are a few clubs in SA with a tasty offer for him should he get bored on the ranch... Brits did a fairly decent jobs post "retirement"

For Stander this would be the ultimate for him. Re-uniting against his country of birth... Massive deal for him.
