So what do we all think?

To kick off debate and because I'm all fancy, this is the team I'd get just from looking at the stats...

1. Marler - No one that impressive, but 5m from 5c was one of the better scores, the oppo scrum lost 2 and he only missed one tackle.
2. Guirado - Was going to be Ghiraldini until I looked at Italy's lineout lost score. France won 90pc of their lineouts and Guirado carried well with 10 tackles and a turnover. 7 passes too, mildly interesting oddity.
3. Murray - Scrum stats could be better but that Try Assist and one less penalty led me to give it to him ahead of the absurdly active Castrogiovanni and the slightly-less-but-still-credible Lee.
4. J Gray - 19 tackles, 1 turnover, 9 carries for 14m and 2 steals. Banker.
5. Attwood - Both he and POC stole 2, but Attwood tackled more, got a turnover, and carried more metres off nearly a third of the carries.
6. Le Roux - 21m off of 9 carries was one of the more efficient returns from a back row and 17 tackles and a turnover decent showing defence. Only one penalty - TOD and Cowan both disqualified themselves through too many penalties.
7. Robshaw - 26 tackles, 2 turnovers, lets move on.
8. Chouly - Other 8s were busier, he made more than most of them. 2 turnovers and a lineout steal were the clinchers for me.

9. Youngs - An assist, useful sniping, didn't get turned over and 8 tackles
10. Russell - Again, defensive stats swayed me - two turnovers made - plus he made more metres than the others.
11. Thomas - Made the most metres and didn't get turned over
12. Dunbar - Made the most metres (Henshaw equal, but more carries) and 2 turnovers in defence
13. Bennett - Again, metres made... 4 offloads pretty handy too. Joseph might have got the try, but got nothing like the space some of the other OCs did.
14. North - I wanted to go with the guy with the try, but twice the ground, one less turnover committed and one turnover gained persuaded me otherwise.
15. Brown - Difficult call. Spedding had far less turnovers. Hogg had two linebreaks but even more turnovers. In the end, decided to go with the assist.

So there we go. I think we can all agree that my unspecified and unscientific methodology was the right one.

Can think of a couple of changes I'd make picking on the actual games I saw though, but, no one unworthy there imo - think it highlights how many very good Scottish performances there were.

I would say about right however I feel Watson for North and Hogg for brown.

Mine based on opinion and not stats though.

His stats were good man. I don't think I'd have ever picked him on my recollection of the game, but the Opta stats read well. Made inroads and was safe in what he did. Better than Watson? No, but the point was to do a weekly XV from a different angle.

Anyone want to post a team of the week without him, be my guest :p

Not that mate just shocked at his stats. Dont remember him touching the ball nevermind making yards.

He had a few jinking runs. I remember a 20m burst in the second half from his 22 however his missed tackle cost a try.

1.Ben arous as when he came on he got over the ball and was like another flanker for France.
2.Ford as his throwing was good and even lineouts lost was when the catcher dropped the ball, can't really blame him.
3.Cole though he gave away a penalty he got a steal and our scrum was dominant.
4.Gray this guy will be massive. Him and Itoje for the 2019 lions combo ?
5.Attwood scored a try, kind of. Set piece was strong and every man and his dog know Attwood is behind that.
6.If I could go e it for one half it would be Haskell, but you can't run into the post and miss a tackle. So I would go for Cowan. I know he played 7 but his work over the ball was brilliant and he saved Scotland many times.
7.Robshaw captain fantastic.
8.Chouly I don't really remember a dominant 8 this round.
9.Gori was an genuine threat for Italy and when your team is a shambles to do as much as he did is impressive.
10.Russell was player of the round for me. Good kicking and defence, made a few breaks and added width to the Scottish attack. Biggar and Lopez unlucky to miss out.
11.Sarto was really strong in defence for Italy and did well with pretty much no ball. Not a great week for wingers.
12.Dunbar was crazy good and really stood up well to Basta and Fofana.
13.Joseph scored a great try and kept the Welsh backs from creating anything.
14.Watson scored a try and was incredible on the air. No brainer for me. North was at fault for Joseph's try so I wouldn't have him.
15.Hogg just for his through the legs pass !

Some of the players who did great this round in my opinion: Ford, Hogg, Bastareaud, Atonio.

2 quibbles with that team @Peat. One is North. Yes he made a couple of runs but they were often too deep to really make an impact, Watson is more deserving (how I hate saying this) as he not only scored but looked dangerous with ball in hand. I'd then argue Faletau is deserving of the 8 spot. A try assist and a good game in the loose and in tackling, far better than his opposite number I'll add, was better.

Otherwise pretty much spot on

my team would be mostly the same as your's but I don't think Euan Murray should be the tighthead, he really wasn't playing that well, I would have went with one off the French props, Rhys Webb or Conor Murray would be my option at Scrum-half but Youngs did play well to be fair but i would have went with Conor Murray. I think Stuart Hogg has to be the fullback instead off Mike Brown if you watch him yesterday he was on fire and my last change would be Watson and 14 he did play well and got a well worked try and in my opinion played better than North

Conor Murray was quite poor, terrible choice for MOTM. The only Irish players in with a shot would have been Jordi Murphy and and PO'C but there was a lot of class at 8 and Attwood was immense.

Where did you find your statistics?

Tbh, if I'd been picking a team on memory of the game, I'd have probably picked Beattie, who I thought had a big game for Scotland - but Chouly's stats were better and, in fairness, I do remember him doing some nice stuff. Faletau's stats suffered from too many carries into brick walls.

Again - no argument North wouldn't be there on memory and that Watson was clearly the better player on the day - but as noted, that did not enter the methodology.

9 games out of 10 Warburton would be better than Robshaw, and to be fair Robshaw did have a reasonable game on Friday, but if he was better than Warburton it was marginal.
Biggar had a good game. Friday night will have know bearing on the world cup, other than to serve as motivation for Wales, who with luck will have 4 to 6 different players starting.
Tipuric for Lydiate with Warburton on the blind, Liam Williams on one wing, Scott Williams in the centre replacing Roberts, Dacey or Belcher at Hooker.
I would also like to see Eli Walker if fit on the other wing with Tyler Morgan and Hallam Amos in the squad.

Not sure how Jonny May made it in, nor Kearney above Hogg who made the most metres. I suppose no wingers really stood out other than Watson, so it could have been anyone, as long as they weren't Welsh.

thought Thomas was better than May.

May is terribly indecisive in defence.
