SuperRugby - Brumbies vs Highlanders - 24/03/2012

Any time I've seen Haskell he's hit lots of rucks I've noticed because I've been watching him to see if he'll carry but he's being hitting ruck after ruck with a lot of ferocity it has to be said.

for us or in the past?

Depends on how you see him. In latter stages of the game the other night he was looking to carry. Where Haskell is desceptive I have found is at the breakdown, he sometimes is not always noticable but he his there. Granted the other night he was not hitting every ruck but you'r not expected to.

our game plan is pretty clear, hit the ruck and win the ball, we dont have four or five guys waiting for the hit up

dont get me wrong, i actually like his game. It's just different to people like thompson so a bit hard to compare, its different to most of out loosies i would say so so i dont think it's quite gelling.

I think he either needs to be a bit more "normal" and hit the ruck, clear out more etc....or go the other way and be thompson, stand a bit wider out and be a link with the backs, if he does that he will have to get more turnovers as thats what thompson brings to the table

edit: sorry, seems to have posted before i as finished

Ah you see you answered your own question there. Haskell and Thompson are two different guys who offer two different games as a flanker. Thompson is a great in the loose and for me Haskell is better in the tight. Depends on what you want from your flanker.

Think next week we might see a further improvement on Haskell's Super Rugby game.

What i meant was he seems to be trying to be thompson with his ball carrying, in that he's trying to be that link with the backs and get a pass away but he's doing it too close to the breakdown and ends up just hitting it up

I cant fault the effort he's putting in though and am still happy to see him on the field, just hope another game under the belt lets him settle in a little more

I wonder if thats the direction the coaching staff have asked him to take. Only time will tell.
