Super rugby table at round 13

With the Blues not missing Anscombe as I thought they would, I'm starting to think Noakes was/is a much better player than everyone gave him credit for. :p

It's probably a combination of a lot of factors. They miss Adam Thomson - the Highlanders were pretty terrible at breakdowns against the Kings. I never really liked Hore as a captain, but this year he seems to be ******* off referees left and right - possibly explaining why they keep getting tough calls against them. And in all seriousness, Slade isn't doing well. But most of all, like the Blues last year, they don't seem to function as a team - just a collection of individuals.

Maa Nonu factor for the Highlanders?
The guy seems like the proverbial albatross round the neck.
Wherever he goes, the team goes 5hit... look at the track record; Canes, Blues, Highlanders.. all performed poorly in the last 3 years with Nonu in the team.

Why anyone would think Andrew Hore is captaincy material is beyond me.
Honestly, who would appoint a guy to captain who was charged with shooting seals with a shotgun from a boat? Or banned for stupid off the ball attacks like the one in the UK last year.
Bad call by Joseph there.

Interesting if you add up the point totals for each conference. NZ 140, Aus 134, SA 128.

yeah the other really good indicator that I like is the total points differential of each conference, shows overall how each conference does against the others, when a team plays another in the same conference the impact is obviously 0 so this number is only affected by cross-conference matches.

SA = -55
NZ = +82
AU = -27

NZ v OZ games are now tied up at 7 all, also, with two games to go.

Not to mention the way he went about undermining Mark Hammett's authority at the Hurricanes before he left.

Doesn't help Sharks' and Stormers' causes that they've been the teams hardest hit by injuries with only the Chiefs having close to something similar. Above is the current list though both teams have had continuous disruptions.

In pro team sports; I honestly don't think injuries can really be used as an excuse anymore. You're supposed to have depth these days.

Sucks when it happens though because it makes you go "what if?".

Really important Robbie Robinson finds form fast with Anscombe out with a broken foot.

Form is temporary, class is permanent. Robbin Robinson shall save the chiefs season and cement his place in the all blacks.
You heard it hear first.

My prediction:
1. Bulls
2. Brumbies
3. Blues
4. Reds
5. Crusaders
6. Stormers (easy road home - just need 3 wins to be in contention again)

Chiefs losing the plot and Cheetahs just missing out
Warrants to make a strong challenge but too late

Revising my thoughts:

One of Crusaders or Chiefs making it but not 3 form NZ
Either Stormers of Cheetahs to make that 6th spot from SA

My final six:

1 Bulls
Remaining matches: HIG (home), SHA (away), CHE (away), KIN (home), SHA (home), STO (away)
Realistically the Bulls should be winning at least four of these games, possibly five or six. They'll likely be sitting on around 65 points, which should be enough to cement them first place. Unless they come up against another South African team, I can't see them losing at home in the finals. This competition is theirs to lose.

2 Brumbies
Remaining matches: WAR (away), BLU (away), HUR (home), REB (home), FOR (away)
The Brumbies get the benefit of playing the Rebels and Force in their last two games, which should give them the remaining points they need to go through to the finals, providing they win at least two of the prior three games (unless they grab a handful of bonus points). They should end up with slightly over 60 points, which will probably grant them that second qualifying spot.

3 Chiefs
Remaining matches: HUR (away), CRU (home), BYE, HUR (home), CRU (away), BLU (away)
Like the Bulls, the Chiefs get to spend the rest of round robin in their home country, and also have the added benefit of having a bye (and therefore 4 guaranteed points) remaining. Injuries will hamper their play, but their position at the moment coupled with a few more wins should see them through to the next round. Their final points should sit around 60.

4 Reds
Remaining matches: CHE (away), STO (away), REB (home), BYE, WAR (away)
Though the Reds' remaining matches are all away from home, bar one, they do have the added bonus of having one bye remaining. If they can grab at least one win in South Africa they should be fine to make the play-offs, unless they self destruct and lose to both the Rebels and the Waratahs. Their final points tally should add up to approximately 60.

5 Crusaders
Remaining matches: BLU (home), CHF (away), WAR (home), HIG (away), CHF (home), HUR (away)
Whilst none of the Crusaders' remaining matches are easy, they're building towards the play-offs and should be able to win at least four of them, if not five or six, along with a bunch of bonus points. With Read returning this week, and Carter starting to find form, they could be hard to topple and probably one of the only teams in the competition that could topple the Bulls in Pretoria. All things going as expected, the Crusaders should sit on 58 points or so.

6 Cheetahs
Remaining matches: RED (home), KIN (away), BUL (home), STO (away), BLU (home), BYE
The sixth position will be hotly contested, with the Cheetahs, Stormers and Blues the likeliest three teams to slip into the finals series. The Blues are yet to travel to South Africa and still have a couple of derbies to play against other teams desperate to grab wins, whilst the Stormers have a very favourable draw but may find themselves to far behind the other two on points. That leaves us with the Cheetahs, who have three very winnable games and a bye left to prop up two very hard matches against the Bulls and the Stormers. If they do what they're capable of, they should find themselves with up to 55 points once the round robin finishes. The Stormers will likely have a similar number of points, but the Cheetahs have won more games. It will be very close, whatever happens, with the sixth team likely only a point or two ahead of the chasing pack, if that.

Which would leave us with play-offs of:
CHF v CHE
RED v CRU

Whilst the Chiefs should be good enough to trump the sixth placed team, the other match could easily go either way. The outright winner is anyone's guess.

The above seems pretty accurate but after this weekend we see the Tahs to come with a big challenge towards the end.
Crusaders might end up higher, they are peaking (again) at the right stage of the tournament

the table is starting to spread.

SA table is interesting because realistically only two teams are left in the race for playoff spots with an 11 point gap between the Cheets and Sharks. And you have to say the lack of bonus points is the reason the sharks and stormers are so far behind.

The opposite on the NZ table with 4 of 5 teams still in the running. Big weekend for the Blues and Canes, I recon they must beat the Highlanders and Brumbies this weekend to stay in it. It is like the finals start earlier for the upper-mid table teams

3 on the Aussie table still in.
