Super League 2007 - official thread

Salford grossly overperformed last season I am not shocked or sad to see them struggle.

that's one way of looking at it - their apparent resurgence seems to have been cut short this year

Sorry, bit late with these results.

Friday 25th May

Salford 14 - 12 Huddersfield

Saturday 26th May

Wigan 47 -16 Hull

Sunday 27th May

Bradford 44 - 18 Harlequins RL

Hull KR 10 - 18 Leeds

Wakefield Trinity 18 - 12 Catalans

Monday 28th May

Warrington 12 - 40 St. Helens

bit late for discussion as well but just saw the Saints - Wolves game last night, I didn't think St Helens played their best in the first half when things were tied up, but they showed their class throughout and capitalized on the disinterest of the Warrington team in the second half plus some devastating broken field running by players like Leon Pryce, all in all a good day away from home, now I also know why STHRLFC is singing Roby's name and praises over and over - the man is always coming off with breaks, offloads, ducking under tackles, he reminds me a bit of Shaun Edwards back in the pre-SL era in the way he just roams around on the field

I too just recently watched that game. It was none too entertaining in the first half, but things certainly picked up.
I, however, can't believe how little the Wolves players wanted to know about the ball when it was sent hurtling into the air. Nobody was calling for it and Saints totally cashed in on their errors.
Enjoyable game, the Saints ended up looking classy and very dominant - but the Wolves are a struggling team in the table.

warrington played better against Leeds yesterday - need to work on their defence a bit more however, however playing Leeds at Headingley isn't the easiest fixture - still they showed improvement competing throughout and were secure under the high ball

Wire need to build themselves up for their upcoming clash with Wildcats. Both these teams are potential relegation contenders. I suspect the edge is with Wakefield at the moment given that Wire have to play Saints in the cup, Wakefield have a week off and Tadulala is going to be back

Results.
Friday 15th June

Salford 5 - 2 Harlequins RL (no tries)

Wigan 30 - 0 Catalans

Sunday 17th June

Bradford 34 - 8 Hull FC

Huddersfield 12 - 25 Leeds

Hull KR 0 - 40 St. Helens

Warrington 31 - 12 Wakefield Trinity

Catalans were screwed out of a perfectly fine try at 6-0. [/b]

That would have made a massive change to the final score.

I didn't see the game due to work but I did hear that Les Cats played better than the scoreline shows.

They make me shudder alright. They're very poor. They didn't play well at all but let me give us our due, I thought we were excellent tonight. The weather wasn't great but we used the ball really well. Sure, we made 1 or 2 mistakes but we scored some excellent tries tonight and you couldn't tell it was a greasy ball. Matty Smith makes Sean Long's absence look like a blessing, and Jon Wilkin is now becoming one of the best loose forwards in the game.

All in all, a great result. Need to get ready for Leeds next week though. If we see them off we could put them out of the race for top spot.

good win at home by Wakefield against Wigan plus now they've signed Greseque till the end of the season - wonder if he can establish himself in SL

if he doesn't get re-signed by the Wildcats, i'd imagine there might be others interested...

I jsut finished watch the Leeds v Bardford match.
It was enthralling to say the least. It was hugely physical, the pace was immense and i know if i played like that for more than 10 minutes i'd be throwing up on the sidelines.
But as comfortable as i thought Bradford looked throughout the entire game - as much as i could never see them losing their lead, regardless of how narrow it got at times - there were a few things that bugged me.

- Vainakolo. How about staying away from the touchline. Maybe, cut back in field when you;ve got 3 players hunting you down. Ridiculously good try however - showed pure strength.
- Bradford didn't exploit the sun. That was a horrible glare leeds had to deal with in the first half and yet i believe i only saw 1 kick sent high and up on the right side. Maybe their coach told them 'early kicks to exploit the left hand side' in the first half, but surely deacon would have used some sense and sent more high balls into the sun!
- Leeds fans ****** me off by calling "forward!" on every bradford pass. But that's what you do when you're team is being dominated. You get desperate.

Sinfields pass for leeds' 2nd try (as it looped over 3 defenders) was sublime. I could believe the pace with which that guy ran onto the ball to score the try. The pass was made to perfection.

I know i've only been watching Super League for about 3 months, but every time i see Bradford play there is one bloke that stands out, he workds hard, he must have a huge tackle count per game and today i found out he's 31 and ending his career: Morrison.
This guy looks like he's playing in his prime in my opinion.
I heard the commentators before his injury he was a star of Super League, but as far as i'm concerned he is unlucky to have lost that ***le now as i can't think a better way to describe him than as a work-horse. He impresses me every time.

Superb game though.
